Is P90X Too Time Consuming?

I was reading some reviews of P90X, I came across this one which happens to be a con: “Its time-consuming. The videos are at minimum an hour, the yoga is a full 90 mins. It can take an hour with start-up and cool-down time. I have a wife and young child, and without the leeway I get to be a bit late in the morning to work I don’t know how I’d be able to fit this program in to my schedule ”

One of my “cons” with P90X also happened to be the amount of time. After a week or two, I got used to the workouts would fast forward through Tony Horton’s chit-chat and start exercising before the people on screen did. This would shave 20 minutes off.

So what do you do? Relax and enjoy the ride or keep the remote handy to get the same workout in less time? Let me know…

P90X for your brain?

Back in July I posted about whether or not you’re too old to do an extreme workout like P90X. Personally, I feel you’re never too old to try something new and challenging as long as your in reasonably good shape and there is no pre-existing condition that would prevent you from doing one of these workouts. Any workout can be modified for people with shoulder, back or knee issues.

Last night I read about how your body & your brain are so inextricably connected where physical fitness can increase cognitive capacity. What happens as we exercise is we drive more blood & oxygen into the brain.  And exercises is believed to stimulate more production of a chemical-brain-derived neurotrophic factor – which helps repair brain cells and prevent further damage. So why is this important and what does it have to do with aging?

Well as we age, most people tend to fall into a sedentary life-style. Once we start to move around less, we pump less and less blood and oxygen to the brain, therefore decreasing our cognitive capacity. I found this fascinating because so many people now, even our young people are growing less & less active.

So how does P90X, fit into this? Well studies show that challenging workouts increase cognitive capacity over 25% in women over 65 than non-challenging ones (such as a stretch class). And the good new is that no matter how old you are now, its not too late to change your brain through exercise.

I don’t know about you, but that makes me want to keep on keeping on as I age. What about you?

Love & light!

Jessica

Soundtrack to P90X2 (or P90X)?

So if you could choose the songs to the soundtrack of P90X2 (or P90X) what would you choose? I know there will be about 16 different workouts so you can get creative. For me if there is a yoga workout, I’d choose something very much like Yoga Fit music. Its more for fast flowing, power yoga. Sort of a like jazz with eastern influences. Maybe some Metallica inspired songs for chest & back workouts. Maybe some Linkin Park type music for shoulders & arms? Who knows! The possibilities are endless! So what would you pick? Share with us and leave your P90X2 (or P90X) music picks in the comments.
