Identifying what, when, and how much to eat so you can lose fat and still get into incredible shape is the goal of this nutrition plan.

The fact is, you are capable of achieving awesome results if you follow this eating plan as designed. P90X® Nutrition Plan | BBQ PhotoThe Three Phases:

Phase 1: Fat Shredder
A high-protein-based diet designed to help you strengthen muscle while simultaneously and rapidly shedding fat from your body.

Phase 2: Energy Booster

A balanced mix of carbohydrates and protein with a lower amount of fat to achieve additional energy for performance.

Phase 3: Endurance Maximizer

An athletic diet of complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and lower fat with the emphasis on more carbohydrates. You’ll need this combination of foods as fuel to get the most out of your final few weeks and truly be in the best shape of your life!

Why Diet Matters

P90X® Nutrition Plan | Wrap Photo

A large body of scientific evidence shows that diet and exercise work hand-in-hand to promote fitness and physical performance. One reason for this symbiotic relationship is the energy equation. When you expend more calories than you consume, you burn body fat (aka “stored energy”) and build lean body mass—but because you need energy to exercise, every calorie you eat must be of the highest quality to get you over the hump.

  1. hi i purchased P90X and i am kind of confused do for example chest and back for a whole week and then go to plyometrics the next week what is the routine for the 90 days

  2. Hi Bryant,
You either follow the guide book and do the workout that is given for each day or you log into Million Dollar Body, log into WOWY and then put in your start date. WOWY will then tell you what workouts to do on which days.
If you have anymore questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

  3. Not sure if you read the book that came with the dvds very carefully.
You have the choice between 3 different options: classic, lean, doubles.
If you follow classic, the first 3 weeks of phase 1 will be like:
day 1: chest & back + ab ripper
    day 2: plyo
day 3: arms & shoulders + ab ripper
    day 4: yoga
day 5: back & legs + ab ripper
    day 6: kenpo

As you can see, the routines are rotating. You have a recovery week (with different routines, to work on cardio, core, yoga) between the phases.
Every thing is well explained in the book.
    Good luck on your journey!

    Matt

    1. Matt, I lost my nutrition book and my guide book and I have a new set coming in the mail, can you please tell me how the lean work out would be for the first few weeks. I’ve been working out for the last year and a half but I got really sick about 8 weeks ago with a sever lung infection and now I’m all cleared and dying to get back in to shape. You think you can helpe?

      1. I am in the same boat as Brenda. I bought the DVD set from a friend but he didn’t have the book or the anything else with it. How can I get a copy of the book and the diet plan?

        1. Hi Brian,

You can get the workout plan on Team BeachBody. You can join Team BeachBody and get a customized meal plan and the workout guide online to schedule your workouts. The link is https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971

The cost is 2.99 per week and is billed quarterly. You also receive the support of a coach to help you along the way and a 10% discount on all BeachBody products.

You can join as a free member too. That link is
          https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free?referringRepId=37971

You won’t be able to get the custom meal plans or discounts, but you can still receive online coaching and support.

          Hope that answers your questions.

          Jessica

      2. Brenda, Bob, & Brian,

We don’t post the workout schedules on here. If you own a legitimate copy of the program, that you purchased from Beachbody, call them and request new manuals. They can look up your purchase order to verify your purchase.

If you purchased the program somewhere else, and didn’t get the manuals, tell the person you want your money back. The manuals are easily worth half the cost of the program.

Another option, sign up for a club membership: http://budurl.com/bhby. You can schedule your workouts, get nutrition plans, chats with the trainers (Tony Horton, Chalene Johnson, etc.), and access many other tools. For less than 50 cents a day, it’s a great deal.

Most important, commit to sticking with it, and do it for YOU!

    2. I in the same boat as Brian. I brought the DVD set from a friend but he didn’t provide book & diet plan. How can I get a copy of the diet plan and workout plan? If anyone can provide me with a copy of the info, I would greatly appreciate it.

      1. Yes for those of you that have the issue of not having the worksheet or P90X schedule workout sheet you should try _________________ and type in P90X. For the nutrition plan book I’ve been looking on _____________.

        1. Hi Klb1712!

The problem with that is how do you know you are getting something legit from the website you quote? Why should someone trust a source that is not part of Beachbody? Why not just get it for free from the legal and reliable source and work with a coach who can help you along the way? Trying to cut corners isn’t the best way to achieve your fitness goals. Just saying..

If anyone needs help with P90X and you don’t have the guides, it doesn’t cost a cent to join Team Beachbody as a free member. You get a coach who can help answer any questions you might have and point you in the right direction. You can find the Team Beachbody Coaches on this website. We really want to make sure you have a great experience with P90X and use it correctly.

I’d be a little leery taking the advice from some guy I don’t know, doesn’t use his real name and just throws out websites on how to cheat and win.

          Again, just saying…

          Peace,
          Jessica

  4. I’m having a hard time with the nutrition plan. I bought the dvd’s and love them but I need more support to get through the nutrition plan. I’d like to use the webste. Can I get more information about using the website for nutrtion support?

  5. I have some questions about the nutrition plan too…I am following the portion option and was wondering if 1 tbsp of natural peanut butter (no sugar) could be counted as a protein serving…I also thought that since I purchased P90x, I would be given a password to log on to a support site where I could get help with some of these questions….can you help me?

  6. hey i purchased the power 90 workout, but when my friends came over to help with my move, the proram guide and nutrition plan wer lost. any way i can get them, i already looked on ebay and there is none… help!!

    1. Yeah, many have that same program. It appears that when your friends help you move, that P90X you downloaded from some BitTorrent site doesn’t include the books. 🙂 If that isn’t the case, then contact BeachBody or whoever you bought it from and with your proof of purchase they can usually get you replacement books.

    2. Holly, If you purchased Power 90 or P90x (or any Beachbody workout) through Beachbody or a Team Beachbody Coach, you can call customer relations at 800-470-7870. They will look up your info and send you a new copy (may be a fee).

If you bought it used, then you can sign up for membership with Team Beachbody and get the basic workout free with coaching. You can sign up for free or upgrade to club membership. Club membership includes free meal plans, a 10% discount and more.

  7. Im going on Day 19 of Power90X and let me tell u im already felling greater then i ever have in ah while and would like to think Tony Horotn him self and the members of the beachbody community for this awsome Workout Plan and for though whom are just starting day 1 trust me it might seem hard tough or like nothing now but keep doing it contiue to push play and like they say BRING IT u will mae it.!!!!:)

  8. Derek, you are absolutely right. It is tough in the beginning if you are not used to working out. But like you said, just stick with it and you will feel the best that you have felt in a long time. Everyone who does P90X is glad that they did!

    1. Derek thats good motivation, I just started phase one on Monday, and after chest and back, ab ripper x, and Plyo today, this is the best workout investment I’ve made. Its almost impossible to push yourself to the extreme on your own without a coach, Tony is a BEAST! I’m sold on the P90X

      1. Joe, congrats on starting P90X. Sounds like you’re already enjoying it, and it only gets better. Tony is a BEAST, and his humor makes the workouts fun.

Keep pushing play, and let us know if you have difficulties, need support, or just want to shout out how great you’re doing.

  9. During a move from my old home, i miss placed my nutrition guide and program schedule. Is there anyway for me to retrieve this information?

  10. Nick, your best chance would be to call Customer Service at 800 470-7870 and tell them what happened and they may be able to provide a replacement for you.

  11. I just started phase 3. I find that with more carbs and less protein I am starving all the time and feel like I have no energy. Is that normal? Will my body adjust, or is it me? Suggestions?

    Thanks

  12. Janna, I don’t know enough about you – height, weight, age, body type, goals, etc. – to be specific, but if you are starving all of the time and it is physiological hunger and not psychological hunger, then intuitively, you need to eat more to fuel your workouts, your activity level and your body’s functions (heart, lungs, organs, etc.).

  13. are there any groups that are just starting p90x that want to do it together in person? have you heared anything like that? PHX Arizona here

    1. P90X is such a popular program, there are people continually starting it, in every corner of the world. If anyone is ever starting a round, feel free to post on here your start date. You may just be the motivation someone else is looking for. Heck, you may even be surprised to find someone in your local area who is interested in starting with you.

With that said, I am starting another round on May 10. I live in Albuquerque, NM, but am willing to work with anyone anywhere. My sister, in Denver, CO is also starting at the same time. Contact me if you want to work through it together. The more the merrier. If you are starting at a later date, let me know also. I’d be glad to work with you too.

  14. i bought the p90x workout on ebay didn’t get the guide book. Could someone please give me directions or feedback on how to start the workouts or a way to bue the workout guide. Thanks much i appreciate any help

  15. What would the lean and doubles phases be like as far as the workouts go?.. I’m still waiting for my guides,I got the dvd’s through someone who didn’t have it included. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    1. Hi Kristi,

The Lean program is not as muscle intense as the Classic routine. There is more cardio and only one workout is done per day with the exception on Ab Ripper X.

The Doubles program is more intense. You follow the classic program but add a second cardio workout on strength days. Its meant for people who are looking to build endurance for an athletic event or those who are trying to lose more weight.

  16. Hi.. I’m starting p90x today, but I had a question.

Do the Peak Performance bars, which clearly have carbs and protein, count as carbs and protein servings? (I’m on the PHase 1 Level 3 Portion plan)

I don’t think I’m supposed to count it as a carbs serving because all the recommended servings for carbs are breads and grains, and say nothing about the performance bar, but for protein I’m not so sure.

If anyone could fill me in as to whether or not I count them as a snack or 1 carbs/protein serving that’d be great.

  17. Kristi, log into WOWY and put in P90X as your workout program, it will allow you to chose Lean, Classic or Doubles. That is the best thing to do if you don’t have your guides

  18. Hi I just started PX90 and I love it. But I dont have any of the books, nutrition plan, etc. Is there anywhere I can get this valuable information?

  19. Hi, I have a question. I got the p90x dvd set but it didn’t include the books what do I do? And also when I start i don’t want to get big or bulky in any way but I would like my abs to pop out more. So out of the three phases which phase do you think would do best for me?

P.S. THANK YOU very much for the information.

    1. Mark and Ben and anyone else who purchased or received P90X second-hand, I would highly recommend that you purchase a new copy of P90X so you can get the guides. They are filled with a lot if valuable info. Here is link to view and purchase http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/P90X?referringRepId=37971

I’ll be honest with you, when I first started P90X I borrowed a copy w/o the guides. I realized that in order to do the workout properly and to eat right I needed to order my own P90X and it was well worth the $119.

If you are a hold-out then you may want to join Team Beachbody either as a free or club member.

      Hope that helps:)

  20. i was wondering about some of the things on the nutrition guide first where it says oatmeal in the morning can i use quaker oatmeal like peaches and cream or maple and brown sugar and second what the heck is a chicken scramble lol thank you

  21. I just bought P90x through another website thinking i was getting the whole product and now all i have are the dvds and no diet plan or guide. can i get these separately somewhere else and how?

  22. Does anyone have a PDF copy of the guide book and nutrition guide? It seems like a few of us are in the same boat and our systems didnt come with them because we bought them used.

    1. Caveat emptor, dude. If you don’t buy from a reputable place, you’re going to get shafted. If you “bought” the DVDs from thepiratebay.org then return it for a refund and go buy the real thing from a legit store.

  23. I just wanted to tell you guys how great it feels do be working out again and feeling that burn in each and everyone of those vidoes but i was wonder which of the move(s) in the Ab Ripper X video is desiged to really target you lower abs because iv tried many other moves and they havent helped much.
    – Thanks So Much
    Johnny

  24. hi, i just got the p90x a week or so ago, i have no trouble understanding the workout parts. i have trouble with the nutrition guide. i want to do the portion plan as it is more conveniant for me. i am phase 1 level 3. ok, so in the guide it says that a level 3 needs 9 proteins. is this per day?it seems a lot for one day. if so, how do i fit 9 proteins into my 3 main portions(and snacks)? does it matter which portion i put the protein in as long as i eat the required amount for that day? any help you could give would be great.thanks.

    1. Using the portion plan, the portions are for each day. When to take in calories, and portions, depends on when you exercise. For me, I workout as soon as I wake, around 4:45am. I finish the workout around 5:45, then have my recovery drink. I wait at least an hour (usually 2+ hours), then eat breakfast.

Breakfast is my big meal of the day, because my metabolism is usually at it’s highest after my workout, so my body is better able to “use up” the calories. I have a decent snack a few hours later, then a good lunch a few hours later, snack a few hours later. By dinner time, I’m winding down for the day, not going to burn many more calories, so don’t need much. I usually have a shake for dinner.

Calculate your calories through the day, with something like MyFitnessPal. If you continually have a lot of calories left to consume at dinner, start adding in extra calories during other meals. If your low on protein, mix some whey protein with water or skim milk. It’s not as filling as 4 oz of chicken, but will get you your required protein amounts.

      Email: spydorbyte@gmail.com

    2. Hi Ian. Yes, the amount is correct and it can seem a little challengin. But it is doable and can make meals enjoyable.

For instance one protein serving is 3 oz of chicken. So on one of the menuse for you, you would eat 6 oz (or more) of chciken and that would be 2 servings (or more) done.

When making a protein smoothie, you actually would use 2 scoops (which is 2 servings).

Use the P90X guide serving guidelines to help you figure out what are good forms of lean protein.

  25. I am a 27year old female and am very much interested in the p90x. I am although concerned with losing my curves(some of the after pics I saw of people looked as if they had no bodyfat at all) I am about 5’0 foot and fluctuate between 110-115lbs. I workout about five days a week a mix of cardio and strength training. Want to still look like a women..keep the butt and chest area but am looking to up my routine ne advice???

    1. Hi Laura, I don’t think you have to worry about losing your curves. I’ve been doing P90X for 9 weeks now and I haven’t lost my booty at all. It looks better, but its not gone. My waist has gotten smaller, so that helps add to the curve factor too.

If you eat to maintain your weight and not to lose, you should lose anything in the chest area either. Everything will just get lean and toned up.

If you want more info on P90X and nutrition you can email me at wattersjes@msn.com or here is the link for P90X http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/P90X?referringRepId=37971

      1. HI,
I am near the end of my first round of P90X Classic and feel that my upper body is more ripped than my lower half. What do you advise me to do after I am finished with the first round so that I can tone down my lower half some more.
        Thanks,
        Amber

    1. Whew! I think Scot and I are getting a lot of these older questions answered and caught up:)

Karen, if you purchased P90X thru a TBB Coach or Beachbdoy, you can call 800-470-7870 and they might be able to replace it for you.

If you purchased it second-hand, I highly recommend buying a new copy. There is a ton of info that you will need in teh P90X Nutrition Guide and the P90X Exercise Guide. It will really make your P90X experieince much more enjoyable and you’ll see awesom results. Plus you get a free coach. It is well worth the investment of $119 http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/P90X?referringRepId=37971

There is another option too. You can join TBB as a “club” member which is really cool. For $2.99 per week you get free coaching, custom meal plans, shopping lists, 10% discount on purchases and much more. Here is a link to sign up https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971

  26. I am interested in ordering the P90X. Working out (weights, cardio, sports) was always a big part of my life. I still work out regularly but I am limited to some degree due to injuries from a car accident. Since then I haven’t been able to get into pre-accident condition. Does the P90X program offer alternative exercises for those that may impact my injuries?

    Linda

  27. I just got my P90X program and started the diet phase while I am waiting for the pull up bar to come in the mail. My question is in regards to the serving sizes. I am starting Phase I Level I. The meal sizes seem to be rather large. If I a cooking grilled chicken should the food be measured prior to cooking or after it has been cooked. 6oz of meat seemed like a lot to me.

  28. The p90x commercials talk alot about pushing and pulling during workouts. I have a torn labrum and rotator cuff along with a tender elbow. Will I be able to complete the work outs.

    1. Lou, with a torn labrum and rotator cuff along with a tender elbow, I wouldn’t imagine that you would be able to do any upper body workouts

  29. I am just starting the P90X program tomorrow. I’ve been reading through the information. The fitness guide tells you to have a recovery shake within 1 hr after your work out; yet in the nutrition plan, Phase 1 Level 1 it suggests the recovery shake for your morning snack?? If I’m doing the workouts at 7 p.m. nightly is it too late to have the recovery shake post work out 8 – 8:30 p.m.??

    1. Linda, you absolutely should have a recovery drink after your workout because it will enhance your body’s ability to recover for your next workout.

  30. I recently had a trainer tell me that if I’m not already in “some kind of good shape” that I will not be able to do it. Is that true? I’m excited about this as I just received it the other day. I know it may be hard at first, but I’m willing to put in the effort.

    1. Pasha, I was a personal trainer for many years and that is a stupid comment. Does he want people to lose weight before they start losing weight? I did P90X the first time when I was 57 and just a runner, meaning I was in awesome cardiovascular shape. I just started doing it and got really strong and really flexible and really fit and really in shape. Use P90X to get in the best shape of your life!

  31. I received the p 90 x system for Christmas. It was purchased on ebay. It didn’t come with an instructional book.I read throught he postings and have found the classic/first 3 weeks of phase 1. Can anyone else tell me what to do the rest of the 90 days?
Also, I was alittle concerned about how hard the workout would be to do. I have degenerative disk, have had 2 back surguries and have had a “dead foot” for about a year and a half do to nerve issues. From these back issues, I am in about the worst shape of my life.
In doing the program for less a week, I have noticed a gain in strength and mobility that I haven’t had in quite a while. This system is as much like the combo areobics and weight training I fell in love with at “jana’s body shop” in the late 80’s.

IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  32. how much is 28 grams of cheese?
i have no time for breakfast and lunch what can i do instead? without the use of the products and stay natural

    1. 28 grams of cheese is an ounce. There are 16 ounces in a pound. The most important meal of the day is breakfast, the second most important is lunch and the least important is dinner. That’s like filling up your gas tank when you get to your destination and driving on empty the whole way there. Don’t have time for breakfast – get up earlier. Don’t have time for lunch – make time.

  33. I was wondering in the nutritional plan book how many servings is in one recipe. Some of these recipes seems like it is a lot. Thanks for your time.

  34. I thought that I was a tough guy! I’m a tree trimmer in the Mid-West and do daily phyical labor, but P90X will put the burn in you! It ROCKS!! I’m lovin it!

    1. John, yes it does. If it hasn’t already, it will make your work day and, in fact, every part of your day easier with your newly developed strength and flexibility. It will also put a smile on your face knowing how fit you are!

  35. Hi, I sent and got p90x through the internet. I thought I was ordering the whole kit. All I received was the CDs. I was wondering how to get the guide book to read and the food guide.

    1. Tracy, like I said to Jason, if you didn’t get the guidebooks, you bought a bootleg copy and that isn’t fair to anyone. They are not available separately. If you want to know the order of the workouts, go to my blog on how to schedule them. If you want to get the most out of the program, join the Team Beachbody Club with me – http://www.milliondollarbody.com/signup/?type=premium2&MDB_SKU=MDCLUB1&username=howtobefit – it’s awesome and you will love it!

  36. Hey Rich,
here is an example of a recipe from the p90x nutrition plan book that seems
to be a large serving for one person.

    shrimp stir-fry-level 1

If it is more than one serving how many servings is it?

    thanks

    1. Jared, that’s only a third of a pound of shrimp and the vegetables, although they add a lot of volume to the meal, don’t add a lot of calories. The recipe is one serving.

      6 ounces Shrimp, peeled
      1/4 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce
      1/2 teaspoon rice vinegar
      1/4 cup fat-free chicken broth
      1/4 teaspoon garlic, minced
      1/4 teaspoon ginger, minced
1/2 cup red onion, sliced in wedges
      1/2 cup broccoli florets
      1-1/4 cups snow peas, trimmed
      1-1/2 cups mushrooms, halved
1/4 cup yellow bell pepper, cubed
1/4 cup canned water chestnuts, drained

  37. Hi, I’m a vegetarian and I find a lot of these programs don’t cater to vegetarian diets. I really want to start on the program but don’t want get bogged down with thinking about substitutions and whether I’m getting the correct ratios.

How does this program work for people like myself. As well, I’m getting married in 5 months, I’m female and I don’t want to look like a steroid monkey, I want to maintain femininity but be strong and lean at the same time. Is that possible on this program. I’ve done the Body for Life program many times throughout the years and I’m bored, I need change. But not sure if this is the right change for me.

    1. Vasudha, just follow the diet that you are on now. The only what that you will look like you are on steroids is if you take them or life like you are on them. P90X is an awesome combination of strength, flexibility and power so that you will have total overall fitness. There is no way in the world that you can get bored because there are too many unique aspects to the program.

  38. i got p90x from a friend that had lost the nutritional plan. i can see that several people have the same problem. i would purchase the plan if they had it available. i dont see how it is unfair if people are willing to better themselves using there products.

    1. Steve, lots of people buy bootleg copies of P90X from China and support the Chinese economy. You are blaming Beachbody, the creators of P90X, for not selling the nutrition guide separately? I think that is sad…

      1. They do sell the guides seperately, if needed. Especially for those that did what I did: I bought the dvd set on ebay $51$ Guides seperate which need downloaded $6$ ran out of ink so three cartridges later @ $26$ ea. and I am not done yet, and one of the files won’t even open. Live and learn, it cost me more this way than if I purchased the real thing.

  39. Hi, I ordered the P90X last year and have since lost the nutritional guide. Is there a way I could purchase one seperately?

    1. The guides are not available seperate from the program. The good news, if you purchased the program from Beachbody, they still have your order history. You can call and have them look up your order. They will send you a replacement guide, possibly for free.

If you didn’t purchase from Beachbody, do so now (http://budurl.com/nqh3). It is the best investment you can do for your health.

    1. Hi Jeremy! You can get phase 2 of the classic workout by joining TBB.

  40. Hi, I’m thinking of purchasing P90X and was wondering what happens after the 90 days? Do you just go back to the beginning and start all over again on the program? How does this program turn into a long-term fitness routine?

  41. I was watching the p90x commericial on t.v. this morning. I’ve seen it once before and I just kind of shrugged it off. Now, my ex boyfriend was telling me about it and he has already lost 25 pounds. I was doing L.A. Weightloss and lost about 61 pounds, but now I have put some of that back on. I hit a plateau and I’m stuck. I go to the gym a few times a week and I go walking every other day.

I’m not exactly fit, but I could be a lot worse off. What is expected when you pop in the dvd for the first time? I can’t do pull ups, push ups, or real sit ups. Anything at all would be great.

    1. What is expected is that are willing to commit to your success. Where you are now doesn’t matter. It’s a starting point, nothing else. Where you’ll end up depends on your desired outcome, and your willingness to do what it takes to get there.

There’s no magical formula to P90X. It’s a program designed to provide you with the nutrition and exercise guidance to reach your fitness and health goals.

As Tony says, don’t say you can’t do this, or can’t do that. Just say you currently struggle with it. Follow the schedule, follow the nutrition, and do your best. Commit to getting better each day, push yourself, and leave some DNA (sweat) on the floor. In other words, BRING IT!!!

If you need help, sign up an account here: http://budurl.com/bhby. You’ll get an account for tracking your progress, and get a free coach assigned to guide you through the program.

Or, for the ultimate accountability, join the team of coaches. Many coaches are not experts, some are just starting their fitness journey. They commit to help others, while others help them. If you’re interested in coaching, visit this site: http://budurl.com/ae2l, or contact me, info below.

  42. I just finished 90 days and followed the program to the T …. including nutrition,, I started at 209 lbs. and I am now 186 lbs. I gotta tell you eventhough Im in great shape I am definately nowhere near as ripped as all claim they are after 90 days…as far as the infromercial goes… Im gonna keep at it but I honestly think unless your already very skinny your not going to be shredded up after 90 days,, more like 6 months..Just my take on it,,, Peace

    1. I started at 210 lbs. On day 90 I was 179 lbs. I wasn’t ripped, but like you, was in great shape, especially compared with where I started. I did another round after that, and finished at 168 lbs, and in even better shape. I stuck to the nutrition 100%, and pushed myself decently during the workouts. Here are my results at various stages: http://budurl.com/l6t2

Can you get ripped in 90 days? Absolutely! I’ve seen guys who’ve done it. What does it take. It take pushing yourself completely beyond your comfort zone. Bring It! doesn’t describe the commitment you need. You have set your goal, and decide you are going to totally destroy the workouts in order to get there.

I start my 3rd round May 10. My goal…absolutely destroy it!!! I know what’s possible, and I’m going to get it. Yes, I’m thinner than I was when first started, but who cares. It ain’t about the past, it’s about now. It’s about deciding what you want, and going after it.

If you “just” loose 20-30 lbs in 90 days, and don’t get ripped, are you not better off than you started. That’s success! And you can do it again and again, and keep getting better.

Bring It, and then blow it away!!!

  43. I am a pretty lean girl already, only 21 about 5’3-5’4 and fluxuate between 110-115. I eat relatively healthy. I am on week two, and Im not really seeing much difference, should I start doing the nutrition plan? I lose wieght very easily if I diet, so I am worried about getting to a too low of a wieght with dieting and exercising.

    1. Elizabeth, you will want to make sure that you are eating enough protein in order to build muscle. So its important to follow the nutrition plan. You will find that there will be enough food to eat to give you energy, burn fat and build muscle. If you follow the plan, you should not lose much weight at all since you are already in your ideal range.

  44. Hey, I bought P90X from a third party and am now in week 5. but buying from third party, my nutrition plan came on a disc as an adobe file and the file is broken and wont open so i can’t even see the nutrition plan. does anyone know where i can buy the nutrition booklet? i tried beachbody.com but they only let you get it with the whole P90X package. please help!

    1. You cannot legally buy just the guides. The only way to get the guides legally is with the full program. Some shady sites have been known to sell copies of the guides, but many have reported getting files that were either incomplete, or corrupted. Trying to get your money back from these people is a lost cause.

Don’t try shortcuts when it comes to your health. Our health is one the few areas where we should spend more, and yet we try to cut corners.

P90X (http://budurl.com/nqh3) is well worth the $119 price tag. If you want to save a few dollars, or better yet, get paid for doing the program, ask me about being a coach. The only requirement, you should commit to completing the program, and doing it for you! Visit http://budurl.com/ae2l for info on the coaching opportunity.

  45. Im a month into P90X and i haven’t seen any weight lose, i have gain muscle, but i want to lose some weight. I calculated my calorie intake and its level 1 between 1800-2300. I have been eating good but i haven’t been eating the amount im suppose to only about 1300-1600 is that why im not losing weight im eating to little? Its hard for me to eat more. Im on Phase 2 now should i eat what i have calculated? Please help!!!

    1. First P90X isn’t a weight program, it’s a fitness program. But, you can lose weight on it, a lot of weight. The key, get closer to your required calories.

If the program says you need 2000 calories, you should be taking in no less than 1800. Your body needs the right quantity and quality of “fuel” in order to make it through the workouts, and make progress. If you short yourself on calories, your body goes into starvation mode. It fears your not going to feed it, so it retains everything, and you stop losing weight.

It’s tough to accept, but increase the calories, and your body will again begin to shed the fat and extra weight. Create a calorie deficit of around 10% of what the program recommends.

  46. Just ordered P90X but dont get it till 2/26/09. I want to start my grocery list today an have a couple days worth of meals prepared by the time i start. where do i go to achieve this? or can some one help with some easy B/L/D igred. & recipes?

    1. My suggestion to anyone waiting for the program to arrive, take your time. It’s called P90X. It’s a 90 day program. But don’t rush to jump in. Take your time, read the manuals, read the message boards, ask questions. You have the rest of your life to enjoy the program. Get a good start.

  47. Hi, I literally just started my p90x today. I find that I’m pretty confused about the diet though. I understand that the first phase is 50/30/20 but I feel like the portion approach definitely doesn’t get me to the 1800 calories I need. I don’t like the meal plan it gives you, since I don’t like a lot of the foods on there (like strawberries, grapefruit, tuna, cottage cheese, cantaloupe, etc). So I decided to just create my own, but in doing so just broke down the 1800 cals into 225g protein, 135g carbs, and 40g fat per day. How on earth do I fit all that in using the portion approach? Plus I feel like certain things should be counted towards protein I guess calorie-wise, but they’re not on the list of proteins that count towards one of the 5 servings (like milk, or cheese). I don’t like doing this myself, which is why I liked the meal plan approach, but I feel like once I start tweaking it then it doesn’t look at all the same as when I started and it doesn’t seem as accurate. Help!

    1. I used a combination of the meal plan and portion plan on my first round. My second round, I started using http://www.myfitnesspal.com. You put in your calories, set your percentages, then just log your food. Admittedly in can be a pain to log everything, but is very accurate.

I’m starting another round, and going to start off using myfitpal to get a baseline, then switch back to the portions. With the portions, some things only count in one category, when yes they do contain other categories (milk, cheese from your example). I think the program just keeps things simple and only counts them in one category. Their system does work though.

  48. I was given the workout DVDs by someone who bought them but didn’t use them all they gave me was the DVD’s where can I go to get the plan the nutrition I need help!!

    1. Best option, order the whole program (http://budurl.com/nqh3), which will include all the guides and disc. $119 really isn’t that much when you consider what you’re getting…a healthy future!

Other option, create a WOWY club account (http://budurl.com/bhby). For less than 50 cents a day, you can schedule and track your entire 90 days, have access to customized meal plans, get 10% off all Beachbody products, and get assigned a personal coach to assist and motivate you through the program.

  49. Hi I just started the p90x program and after 2 days I am very sore on my arms and abs, the next day is lifting weights and ab ripper again. If I am too sore tomorrow can I skip a day and resume the next day? I don’t think it is good to train sore muscles.

    1. If you absolutely have to, yes, you can skip a day. But I recommend working through it. It the muscle fatigue is too bad, start using the P90X Results and Recovery Formula (http://budurl.com/9yjy). I use it every day after the muscle routines. It greatly reduces the “day after” muscle pains. You can mix your own concoction, but honestly, the price is about the same, and this is much easier, just add water and mix.

    1. Hi Susan. I would highlgy recommend purchasing P90X beand new. You’ll get everything you need, plus it comes with a 90 Day guarantee. And if you order from a TBB Coach, such as one of the ones on the board, you get them as a free coach:)

      http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/P90X?referringRepId=37971

Another option would be to join TBB as either a free or club member. I highly recommend joining as a club member for $2.99 per week. You get custome meal plans that work great with P90X and the other Beachbody workouts. Plus a 10% discount on products.

      Free Signup Form: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free?referringRepId=37971
      Club Signup Form: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971

  51. I just started the P90X program last night and I was wondering where the rep sheet is or is that something we have to make ourselves. You know to keep up with how many reps you do with each workout and see how it increases over time.

    1. You can copy the rep sheets from the manual. If you don’t have the manual, or don’t want to copy it, you can get them from Get Fit / Fitness Tools on the WOWY site. You’ll need to be a club member (http://budurl.com/bhby) to a access the fitness tools. The membership is less than 50 cents a day, and provides a lot.

  52. what is the difference between p90x and the lean version and all the other varieties? i want to buy it but i cant find a for sure answer as to which one is right for me?

    1. The program comes with three separate routines you can follow, Lean, Classic and Doubles. Lean=more cardio, Classic=the standard, Double=the standard with extra cardio on half the days.

You can order it here: http://budurl.com/nqh3, then choose which routine to follow after you get it.

  53. I just left the Arnold classic and it motivated me to get my p90x out and get started, however Iwas kinda wondering why beach body didnt have a booth where people could meet Tony and some of the others on the series, and if I produce some good results I would love to represent for p90x next year.

    1. If you want to meet the Tony and any of the other trainers, and get a chance to work out with them, sign up as a coach (http://budurl.com/ae2l). There are several events throughout the year where you can meet them, and once a year they have a Coach Summit. I just attended last week. Got to meet Tony, work out twice with him, plus workout with all the other Beachbody trainers. Outstanding event.

  54. okay it says to have a bar instead of a meal. but the bar is listed along with all your other proteins and fat etc through out the day. so does this mean to have 2 bars a day- one in place of a meal, and one for the allowed portion- or just have one bar in place of a meal? does that makes sense?

    1. I recommend sticking with one bar a day, and get your other calories from other food sources. I love the bars, and the shakes, but really you need variety.

  55. I am very interested in starting the P90X program, but I’m not sure how to make it fit into my work schedule. I’m a flight attendant and away from home atleast 3 days a week. Am I able to vary the workouts so that I can do the ones that don’t require any major equipment while away in my hotel room or would I need to follow a specific workout schedule?

    1. For best results, stick to the schedule. The good news, you can do it where ever you go. You don’t need big bulky equipment. You can use resistance bands instead of weights. They take up little space, just throw a few various ones in the bag. You can also use these for “pull ups”. P90X, and all the Beachbody programs are very versatile in that you can do them about anywhere, with limited accessories required.

  56. I WEIGH 300LBS AND I’M THINKING OF BUYING
    P90X.I KNOW I’LL SEE A DIFFERENCE IN 90 DAYS.MY QUESTION IS,HAS ANYONE STARTED
AT THIS WEIGHT,AND HOW DID IT WORK.

    1. Yes, lots of people have started at that weight, and higher. You may have to modify during some of the workouts, but you can still do it.

My suggestion to anyone starting that is very overweight, TAKE YOUR BEFORE PICTURES!!! Take some videos of yourself too. I would even recommend sitting down in front of the camera and interviewing yourself (got this idea from Biggest Loser). Tell about how you feel, why you want to change, and why you never want to go back to where you are.

Then, get a coach who will stick with you, guide you, motivate you, and want to see you succeed. There are a few on this site, and my contact info is below.

When someone is very overweight, their change not only will give them a new life, they can also save so many other lives, by being the example of what is possible. And, when you complete the change, you want to have it documented. You stand a great chance and winning one of the prizes Beachbody offers for their competitions like the Million Dollar Body. You just have to want it, and believe you can do it!

  57. I just received my P90X and I intend to start the nutrition guide and workout routine on Monday the 23rd. I’m a bit confused by the nutrition guide though. From the guide it looks as though I’ll be in Phase 1, level 1 for one week, then switch to phase 1, level 2 the next, followed by phase 1, level 3 and so on. If this were the case with only 3 phases, that only covers 63 days of the 90 day program. I’m sure I’m missing something I just don’t know what. Is there anywhere that tells how long I’m supposed to be in each phase or level? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Josh

    1. The levels are determined by your weight. Use the calculations from the nutrition guide to determine which level you are.

The phases coincide with the phases from the fitness program. If you’re in phase 1 of the workouts, you’re in phase 1 of the nutrition.

      Exceptions on the nutrition:
      1. If you have extra fat you want to shred, you can extend phase 1 for an extra 2 weeks, but no more.

      2. You don’t have to go to phase 3, unless you are satisfied with your results, and your crushing the workouts. Phase 3 is to support a high performing athelete, which you may be by the time you reach phase 3. I switched to phase 3 for a week, but felt like it was too much carbs, and not enough protein, so I went back to phase 2.

      Email: spydorbyte@gmail.com

  58. It says you may replace a meal with a bar in your daily diet. So, what does the bar count as? One protein and one carb?

    1. If you are using the portion plan, the bar would count as one snack, or one bar. Although the bars have carbs and proteins in them, the way the portion plans is set up, you don’t count them that way. It actually makes it easier the way they have it set up, only count items in one category.

  59. I’m looking to start using P90X shortly, but rather than trying to lose weight I’m actually trying to gain muscle mass. I’m currently about 5’10” and 145lbs, right around 10% body fat – so I’m pretty slim to start with… Should I stick with just using a mass building protien or is there something else you’d suggest in terms of eating habits? Thanks!

    1. Eat solid foods, in the portions recommended by the program. If you’re a club member (http://budurl.com/bhby) you can calculate you caloric needs to maintain and lose weight. To gain weight increase by ~10% over the maintain, sticking with the proper ration. You can use whey protein to add extra protein, but don’t rely on it too much.

  60. Hey I bought p90x and started it and the meal portions seem to be way to big for one person and it seems like i am eating way too much. I have the pdf files of the Nutrition Guide and i am not sure that it is right because of the size of the meals. Someone please advise me on the meal sizes and if they are correct please.

    Thanks

    1. You need to eat a lot for your body to keep up with the program. It seems like a lot, but will decrease if you lose weight. I can’t vouch for the what’s in the PDF, some partial and/or incorrect ones are floating around the internet.

You can calculate your caloric needs as a club member (http://budurl.com/bhby). Order the full program with the latest guides (http://budurl.com/nqh3) to guarantee you get the correct info.

  61. My husband and I purchased p90X on ebay and downloaded the nutriton plan. We are now on week 3 and love the results we have seen so far. However, I am very interested in the recipes and was wondering where i could get them. Can the cookbook be purchased seperately?

  62. Okay people, so, you were looking for a deal and bought P90X on ebay? Or from some sketchy person online?

Firstly, I don’t believe any of that. Duh, its way faster to just buy it from beachbody.com and they are sure to send it to you in 5-7 days, WITH a 100% moneyback guarantee. JUST BUY IT!!

Secondly, this is your future body, and you don’t think $120 is worth the way you’ll look for the rest of your life? I bet many of you have spent more than that on tatoos. You can afford to buy it legitimately. Just do it right.

If you DID in actually buy it off the internet, either the person who sold it to you copied all the discs and kept the nutrition guide, so you just helped them pay for their program. Buy your own. For the guide and plan alone, its worth it.

    1. Agreed completely Lindsay. I understand trying to save money, but when it comes to your health, cutting corners is not the best idea. The P90X program and guides are an investment in your life that pays off in dividends (a longer, healthier life). Going through the program just one time will teach you enough to help you be healthy for the rest of your life. And you can continue the program over and over.

If you want to change your life, get the full program (http://budurl.com/nqh3), which will include a free coach to help and guide you. Your life is worth it.

  63. Hey everybody! I see there are a lot of people who have the p90x disc, but do not have the nutrition, exercise guides, or anything else that came with it. I have them on my computer, and for $3.99 I will send them to you via email. You have my personal guarantee that these are all complete, exactly like they are in the book, and make this program soooo much easier. You can send me the $3.99 via paypal to or if you’d prefer, you can send me a money order for this priceless information. Email me at and I will tell you where to send it, if you’d rather send a money order instead of paypal, but with paypal you get it within minutes! Thanks for looking everyone! Here’s to your success!
    Eric

    1. For those considering buying the illegal pdf copies floating around, read through the boards. Too many others have purchased copies of the program, then realized the fitness and nutrition guides weren’t included. So they buy copies of the guides. Some of the time, the files are either corrupted, incomplete, or outdated. Occasionally, the files work, but then people spend another $20-30 in ink and paper printing the guides. In the end, they end up spending more.

No, you don’t have to print them, but it makes it so much nicer to have a paper version to thumb through, read whereever, and bookmark your favorite areas (exercise explanation, recipes, etc).

Bottom line, as I alway say, if your going to cut corners and try to save money, your health is not the place to do it. Make a commitment to succeed, a commitment to your health. You are worth the price.

So as Scott, Rich and I have said many times, you really should invest your money in the real deal, and not try to cut corners buying what seems like a good deal. P90X bought from a Team Beachbody Coach or Beachbody is really the best deal out there.

  66. I am in the p90x and this is my day 2 tomorrow I will be on day 3. I enjoy this workout plan because i get more sore in an hour than going to the gym and spending 2 hours.

    1. Hi MannyFresco,
Congrats on starting P90X! When I first started I became sore after 2 days as well, until I got a recovery drink.
      Hopefully you finished the program.
To everyone else just starting…make sure you have a recovery (protein/creatine) drink within 30 min or you will be super sore and want to quit early 🙂 Recovery drinks are different than most protein drinks because they add creatine. Creatine helps supply energy to your muscles and reduces soreness.

  67. Hi need help with the servings on diet plan.example steak agulua serves 4 with 8 ounce of steak sirloin now is that 8 ounces each or 8 ounce between 4 many thanks

  68. In the nutrition guide, Phase 1 Level 1 the book shows two yellow boxes for fats, but does not have the number 2. Is this a possible typo?

Is the correct number 0 or two for Level 1 Phase 1 fats?

  69. Hello. I am a regular healthy eater/exerciser and have been somewhat successful at keeping in moderately good shape but this looks like it could be an improvement. Question: Assuming that this works as well as it claims, what is available for AFTER the 90 days are over? Why is it p90x and not pFOREVERx?

    1. Hi Steve. You totally can use P90X beyond the 90 days. There is a section of the exercise guide that comes with P90X that explains that you should be able to workout with P90X several rounds before hitting any plateaus.

The original concept is that in 90 days you are guaranteed results or your money back. I’m in week 10 and plan on doing P90s again after I finish my first round.

      Hope that helps;)

  70. I have always thought about doing the P90X workout and have decided to go pick it up next week to start it. My question is what type of equipment am I going to need for this workout? So I can pick it up when I buy the program.

  71. If you dont eat a consistent healthy diet dont even bother working out or doing P90X for that matter. if you are unable to do pushups, pull ups or real situps dont worry, its about making progress over time, you might only be able to do 1 or 2 pushups for the first week, just keep at it and youll be doing 3 or 4 by the 2nd or 3rd week, whenever you do pull ups you can use a chair to assist you and with the situps P90X has a ab ripper x program which is not just sit ups, its a complilation of all different kinds of ab and core working excersises, all it takes is time and dedication, the question is how bad do you want it??? ive currently been doing the doubles routine and i like to mix in at least 6 miles of running every week whether its on a track or more of a cross country setting. one of the most important things about P90X is following the schedule, DO NOT SKIP WORKOUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! the yoga and X-Stretch are important parts of the program with muscle confusion and helping you get flexible, it doesnt matter if you dont have a models body in 90 days, its about making progress and getting better than before, i can promise if you eat right and stick to the workout schedule you WILL lose fat

    1. I agree with all of what you say Trent, except the first line. Even if you don’t consistently eat healthy, working out and/or doing P90X is still a good thing. Doing something is better than doing nothing.

You won’t get as good results if you don’t follow the schedule and the nutrition plan. And depending on how bad you’re eating, you may get no results, but it might as least prevent you from getting worse.

With that said, I highly recommend if you are going to do P90X, stick to the program and the nutrition. You chose to do an intense program for a reason, to get max results. Follow the plan and you WILL get those results, guaranteed!!

  72. I just got P90X and I’m scratching my head with the nutritional guide. For that past 5 weeks I’ve been on a 2100 calorie a day diet with the break down 50% carbs, 25% protein, and 25% fat. I started at 355 and now I’m down to 333 in 5 weeks. Following the P90X guide, at 333 pounds, I should be consuming 4596 calories a day. Am I reading this right? I know I definately need to adjust my carb, protein, and fat ratio, but I can’t imagine consuming more than twice what I am now and still lose weight. Can any one help me with this?

    1. Hi Tim. I’m not sure what your height and age are, so that will be difficult in determing your caloric needs.

Were you exercising when you were just consuming 2100 calories? You should definitely eat more when you are doing a program as intense as P90X. You actually burn calories while eating and digesting food. If you skimp while exercising on P90X, you run the risk of exhaustion and getting sick.

Plus if you don’t eat enough calories, your body may rebel and hold onto the weight you’re trying to lose for fear of starvation.

Run your numbers again to make sure they’re right. Once you start dropiing weight, your numbers will change to reflect that. So re-run them to get your new caloric needs.

If you need more help, you can email me at wattersjes@msn.com.

  73. I PURCHASED THE P90X PROGRAM AND I DID NOT RECIEVED THE NUTRIENT GUIDE HOW CAN I PURCHASE IT. ALSO IM 43 DAYS INTO P90X AND IM SEEING RESULTS SO I KNOW WITH THE GUIDE I WILL SEE MORE AND FASTER RESULTS

  74. I am just starting the P90X and have questions.

Question 1 – Working Out Late At Night
First, I am best able to do this program late at night (have 2 young kids and am working during the day). I trained for a half marathon this way so I am used to exercising at night (starting work-out around 9:30 PM).
Is this problematic for the P90X?
Is a post-workout recovery shake still recommended at this late hour (workout finishing around 10:30 or 11 PM)? I usually go to bed an hour following my workout.
Would a post-workout shake provide too many carbs at this late hour (i.e., right before bed)? Would it keep me up (I’m a difficult sleeper)?

    Question 2 – Nutrition Plan, Level 1

I like to cook and am wondering about alteratives to pre-manufactured recovery bars. I have seen some recipes on-line (for example,
    http://mike.race.googlepages.com/mike'schockyrecoverybar

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/09064/953200-34.stm ) – are these OK? Would appreciate some guidance here (even if it’s in general terms, in terms of ounces of sugar, protein, etc. [I am aware of the 4:1 ratio])

Question 3 – Nutrition Plan, Single Serving Snacks, Level 1

In terms of single serving snacks, I see that 1 ounce of dried fruit is listed as a snack (100 calories). Can fresh fruit be used as a substitute without cutting into the daily fruit allotment (for example, 1 medium apple, 100 calories instead of 1 oz. dried fruit)? I am much more receptive to fresh foods than dried foods. I am reasoning that if 1 oz. of dried fruit qualifies as a snack (100 calories)and does not count against the daily fruit allotment, then can 100 calories of fresh fruit qualify as a snack (without counting against the daily fruit allotment)?

    1. Hi Michelle! Going to try and answer your questions here:

#1 You need to workout when its best for you. Trying to make another time work will just make things frustrating, so if you like to work out at 9:30 pm, thenn do it. I would still have the recovery drink after the workout. You’re going to need it to repair your muscles and replace glycogen levels. It will probably work better to with the rest you’ll get.

#2 I couldn’t get those links you posted.

#3 You can replace fresh fruit for dried. I like to use my P90X Nutrtion Guide as a “guide.” So i use it for suggestions and I replace items that I don’t care for. It will still count as just your snack. Snacks are just that, snacks and won’t take away from your daily allotment of fruit.

  75. Another Question Regarding the P90X Nutrition Plan

I am just starting the P90X.

I love the recipe for the chilled cucumber soup (level 1) though I have not tried it yet.

I see that 1 cup of the soup counts as 1/2 vegetable. Why are there no points for dairy under this recipe?

I was reasoning that the yogurt would count towards dairy.

I am a lean 35 year old female (high metabolism, always ate what I wanted without much concern for weight-gain but in recent years have focused on choosing VERY healthy, clean foods and staying away from dairy and gluten [due to personal congestion issues – though yogurt is OK for me).

I am 5’5.5″, 114 pounds. I am looking to add strength and muscle and flatten my abs (the only area where I’d like to lose an inch or so as this is where I tend to gain weight; also have 2 kids so my abs are not washboard but not horrendous. 26.5 inch waist – would like to use an inch or so or just tighten/flatten this region).

Anyway, I do not go out of my way to consume dairy because of issues I have with congestion (though yogurt works for me).

So the chilled cucumber soup appealed to me as a way to earn dairy points. But it is not listed with points towards dairy. Does it really not count as dairy? Please explain.

    Thank you.

  76. hello!! I’m now 27 days into my program and have already seen tremendous results…I lost 12 pounds using the level 1 nutrition level!!! During the fat shredder phase (1 day left of it), I followed the portion approach and was able to come up with my own appropriate menu. I also thought that following the level 1 would be a good idea instead of my original calculated nutrition level (level 2) for a lower calorie intake… Was that bad ? Would I have lost more weight if i had followed my original calculated nutritional level ? And would i get better results and the end of 90 days if I continue with level 1 or should I shift to level 2 for phase 2 and 3 for the ultimate results??
I would really appreciate some help. THANK YOU !!

    1. For anyone doing P90X, follow the nutrition plan. If your weight has you in level 2, but close to level 1, and you want to lose weight, drop to level 1.

A better option for club members (http://budurl.com/bhby), use the calorie requirements from the Beachbody website under Nutrition Tools. This will give you the calorie requirements for your exact weight and fitness program, and also tells you calories to maintain or lose weight.

Your results will be best if you give your body the calories it needs to perform it’s best during your workouts. If you cut calories too low, you won’t have full energy to “Bring It” during the workouts.

      Email: spydorbyte@gmail.com

    1. You would have to define work (what’s your goal), but the answer is probabaly no.

If you’re trying to lose weight, and you deprive your body of the calories it needs, it will likely go into “starvation mode”, and retain everything you put in. Your body adapts to the way you feed it. If it doesn’t get enough, it fears it will not have enough to survive, so it starts storing what you feed it.

If you eat the required amount for P90X, you’ll have the energy to crush the workouts, and your body will burn off calories faster.

Now, depending on where you got the calorie requirement from, you can probably cut the calories down around 10% and still lose weight. Just don’t go any lower.

  77. Rich, the p90x website says to start with Power 90 if you can not pass the fitness test. Do you recommend the same? I am 36, and have not worked out in 10 years. I am not overweight, most people would say I need to gain weight.

    1. Joel, when I got P90X in March 2007, I was 56 and didn’t even know that there was a Fit Test. Even if you are out of shape, you can do part of every workout until you can complete each routine. It is worth having the patience to start with and then you won’t have to buy P90X later.

  78. A friend of mine gave me the CD’s, but I don’t have the nutrition guide. I am getting married in 4 months, and I NeED to loose weight. I was wondering if anyone knows if I can buy just the nutrition plan??

    1. I would also highly suggest that you purchase your own copy of P90X through a Team Beachbody Coach. You can select any of the coaches here and shop through their profile/coach page.

I hada borrowed copy of P90X, and it really wasn’t working out. I am so happy I decided to invest the $119 into getting my own legitimate copy. The nutrtion guide and exercise guide put it all together for me. I am a fitness instructor who is very busy with 4 kids. So for me to try and come up with a routine to do on my own was always a hassle. And even fitness instructors need guidance with eating. We’re human too.

Think about all the money we spend on things that are bad for us. Like fast food, junk food, soda, cigarettes, etc. Or a lot of us will think nothing of spending $120 going out to dinner and drinks. If you could just cut back a little on the other expenses, you could afford to invest in your health.

    1. Hi Mariana,

If you purchased your P90X through Beachbody or a TBB Coach, you can call 800-470-7870 and they may be able to replace it. You other option is to join TBB as a club member and get custom meal plans, a 10% discount as well as free coaching and cool online tools. This is $2.99 per week and so worth it.

  82. I am 6.0 ft tall, 40 years old, weight around 175 lbs, and have a small belly that will be eliminated with the P90x program. I would like to gain about 8-10 pounds of muscle, what nutritional plan should I be looking at? Do I need more daily calories? and what foods should I be staying away from?
    All the best to you,

    1. did you get an answer to your question about gaining weight? I am similar to you in size 6’3 about 195 but am slim and would like toa dd about 10 lbs of mass. Most of these guys are losing weight. What did you hear after your question about the nutrition plan

      1. Hi PA & Kevin.

If you are looking to gain weight, you may want to bring your level up in the nutrition guide. So if you are a level 1, bring it to level 2, if level 2 then bring it to level 3.

This will ensure you’re taking in more calories. Once you have gained your desired amount, then back it down to your intended level.

  85. I started the P90X Lean.. I gave it 2 weeks.I found that it seems a little too easy(I was not burning a lot of calories) do I need to start my 90 days over or can I just start the next week doing the Classic or Doubles.

    1. Hi Lynisha, I was almost in the same boat as you. I started out on Classic, then switched to Lean thinking I’d like it better, but soon found I was missing Classic. So I switched back to Classic, w/o starting over. I wish I had started over though.

I would recommend that you start over. Classic (and doubles for that matter), start off with Chest & Back where Lean starts using Core Syn. There are other schedule differences as well. I think it would be benenfical to start over and learn those differences before jumping into week 3.

  86. I am excited to start the p90x program. However, I am confused on where I should start in the Nutrition Book. I am a 6′ 150 pound male looking to build muscle and muscle definition basically, not lose weight. Should I start with the Fat Shredder guide? Or should I start with one of the other ones?

  87. A friend gave me the entire program except for the P90X Nutrition guide. Is there a way to purchase that guide seprately or download it?

    1. Hi Debby and anyone else who purchased or received P90X second-hand, I would highly recommend that you purchase a new copy of P90X so you can get the guides. 1. I know they used to sell disc cleaning kits, when CDs were somewhat new. You may try that. You can check at Best Buy, Amazon, or something like that.

If that doesn’t work, unfortunately I don’t think there’s anything you can do.

If the person it as bought from is local, and they purchased it from Beachbody, they may be able to have Beachbody look up their order and get a replacement disc.

    1. Hi Susan. Water is always the better choice, but DIET soda is okay to have on occasion. I used to only have one caffine diet coke with dinner. But I recently weaned myself off of that and just drink water now.

One thing to note, is that any kind of soda, diet or regular has carbonation, which can cause our stomach area to look bloated at times.

But I see no harm in having one a day as long as its DIET.

      Hope that helps:)

  90. Hi I’m 60 yrs old , 5’11” weight is 188 I work out 3 days a week been wanting to try the P90X program does it work for us seniors ?

    1. Hi Joe,

P90X is a great workout. Since you are already working out you should be ok with trying it. You can always work at your own pace. If it turns out its too intense, it does come with a money back gurantee.

  91. I love reading the attempts of P90X bootleggers to acquire a copy of the nutritional / exercise guides. Seriously, do you really think people believe or empathise with “I’ve moved house and lost it / It didn’t arrive in the post and I’m waiting for the re-order to come in / I bought it from yourswindled.com and it didn’t come with the books / my dog ate it.”? Call my cynical in assuming every mail like that is a con, but it really makes me lol seeing the ingenuity (or lack thereof) of posters looking for the guides because they didn’t fork it out like the rest for the real product. The funny thing is, if they had half a brain-cell, they’d go straight back to the source from where they got the material in the first place – it’s all there if you know your ars3 from your elbow in terms of search parameters. You’ll be missing out on the great online support and customer service, however.

Trolling people aside, I’d like to help anyone out wondering about calorific contents and diet plans etc to keep in line with the P90X nutritional goals.

Lots of posts here are about “How much calories are in XY grams of this / that”. I’ve found this great website:-

    AIdiets.com.

It’ll do all the leg-work for you in terms of calculating protein, fat and carb content of stuff in less than 20 secs. I think it uses the database from the foods and standards agency to compile stats for every food you can imagine. It’s got lots of other functions besides that and it’s free. Give it a shot 🙂

    1. Thanks for the tip on AIdiets.com. Hadn’t heard of that site before, and it looks promising. I love trying out various programs/webistes to see what fits my needs best.

I agree on the bootleggers too. The funny part is, as you said, many use the same excuse. Some do who own up and admit they bought it elsewhere, and I’m sure some of them didn’t know any better. That is one of our goals, to educate people before they buy, make sure they know what they are, and are not, going to get if they buy from the “discount sites”.

  92. Hey.

I have lost my nutrition guide and have looked everywhere for it and cannot find it anywhere. Is there anyway the Nutrition plan can be emailed to me? Thanks.

  93. Got the P90X system today. First thing I did was to check to see if the packaging was still in its wrapper. If not then its been tampered with. Second thing was to see if everything was there. If not then its been tampered with, send it back.

And now the hardest part. I sat down and read everything from cover to cover and took a look at the first DVD “How to bring it on”. I would say the 80% of the questions asked here are answered in the materials in the system.

Rich, my hat off to you for answering so many questions that are answered in the information in the box.

Lastly, I need to get some materials before I start P90x. I need a chin-up bar, the recovery drink (I took a look at the Kempo video and I know that without the drink I would be in trouble) some dumbbells and a heartrate monitor.

About all the nutrition questions. Hey aren’t most of us fat (me included) and that’s what brought us to P90X. The nutrition book that some of you don’t have is just a guideline (a very good one at that, but still just a guideline). We all have different nutritional needs so listen to your body, take your pulse every morning and relax. From what I saw on the DVD’s, if you can get 90% of the exercises done, you’re going to see a big, big positive difference in yourself.

    1. Ken, good on you for reading over everything. Unfortunately, in the busy world we live in, people often want to just jump in. Give me the Cliff Notes and I’m off. I’m a reader, over reader sometimes. I want to make sure I do it right.

Requirement for the program include, dumbbells or bands (http://budurl.com/87l6), pull-up bar (http://budurl.com/8kv3) or bands and door strap (http://budurl.com/ctu3), a positive attitude (www.ComesFromWithin.com).

Optional but recommended: recovery drink (http://budurl.com/9yjy), heart rate monitor, yoga block, yoga mat (http://budurl.com/puqx).

The nutrition guide is is a guideline, but for those who don’t know what to do nutrition wise (me when I started), it’s a step-by-step manual. We do programs like P90X because it takes the guess work out, just follow the schedule. The nutrition guide does the same thing, just follow the plan.

It’s possible to get results without following the plan, but guaranteed to get results if you follow the plan.

  94. Rich, I am about to start the P90X workout, but am having a problem determining what nutrition level I am. My body weight is 265.0 and I am 6″ 1′ (lean body weight is 160.10). Which number do I use? When I calculate it, it comes up to like over 4,000! is that right? That would put me in nutrition level 3. But don’t I need less calories, since I am larger?

    1. Tim, use your actual body weight to calculate. The heavier you are, the more calories you need to live and have the energy to do P90X. If you want to lose weight, cut 200-300 calories off the calculation, but no more.

If you cut calories back too much, two things happen. First, you won’t have energy to “Bring It” during P90X. Second, your body will go into starvation mode. When you don’t eat enough, your body stops burning fat, fearing you aren’t going to feed it enough.

By using a slight calorie deficit, you’ll lose weight without going into starvation mode. Be sure to recalculate your calories as you lose weight. Recalculate every 10 lbs.

  95. Hi I’m 16 years old and a girl. I’m in highschool so i am very bust but i want to do the p90x. Is the food in the nutrition plan complicated to make because i need something easy and fast because i am so busy. Also how many times a day are you supposed to eat. I want to get very toned but i do not want to get bulky like a man so should i still use the protien shakes and what kind of protien bars do we have to get? Sorry i know this was long but i have a lot of questions.

    1. Hi Jordan,

The nutrition plan is not complicated and there are some foods that are very quick and easy. A lot of women feel that they will get bulky like a man if they workout. I have never seen this happen unless there was a hormonal problem. Women lack the hormones that will make them bulk up like men.

To answer your question on eating, ideally you ant to eat about 5-6 small meals per day.

And as far as protien shakes go, they will not make you bulky. Muscles need protien. BeachBody has some nice options whenit comes to protein shakes and bars:)

      Hope this answered your questions,

  96. I am interested in this program, however I hear that you have to be an ideal weight before starting, is this true?

    1. Hi Natalie,

No this is not true, but please consult your doctor before starting any exercise program. If you look at the success stories you will see that not everyone was at their ideal weight. Most were not at all.

      Hope that helps:)

  97. Ok, can we all just agree if you don’t have the nutrition guide you probably ripped p90x off the internet or bought a bootleg copy. Just be honest about it and quit using these sites as a way to steal from Beachbody.

    1. Thanks, Jim. Well said. You can do the right thing and get the scheduling for P90X (which you don’t have because you don’t have the exercise guide) and the nutrition information you need (because you don’t have the nutrition guide) by joining the Team Beachbody Club for $2.99 a week. You pay $38.87 for 3 months and you will get the results that you deserve from P90X. Click here to learn more about Team Beachbody

  98. ok so i got the p90x dvds and the fitness guide is not in them. does anyone know what the lean routine is?

  99. I am 51 ,am I too old to start? I weigh 200 lbs. I,ve been watching the infomercial
since I was 180 lbs. Ideally I would like to be 175 to 180 lbs. but in shape again.
I am physically active, work general construction.I used to box about 30 years ago, but can still bust up the bags pretty good. I did buy p90x dvd set of course looking for a deal, like most others tried to get the guides seperate, only to find they needed to be downloaded, which would not work, lost the download somewhere in my computer and my money.

Bob December 2, 2009 at 1:16 pm | #43 Reply | Quote This is the same Bob as above I am 51, weigh 200 lbs. 5′10″ I was wondering if I am too old, I am fairly healthy and get stress tests regularly .I am still waiting on the dvd set but can’t seem to get all the guides downloaded. What a mistake, I should have just purchased p90x new.

Bob December 5, 2009 at 5:38 pm | #44 Reply | Quote I bought the dvd set on ebay$51$ Guides seperate $6$ which need downloaded ran out of ink so three cartridges @ $26$ ea. and I am not done yet, and one of the files won’t even open. Not the sellers fault, though I think I should have just bought it new. Boy live and learn.

From December til March finally started p90x yesterday, I got tired of watching the infomercial, a little sore today but I just couldn’t do all of the ab routine, I tried and pushed, though I didn’t give up I feel by the 90 day mark I will do every workout in the program.

    1. Hi Bob,

No, you are not too old. But as with any other exercise plan, you might want to check with your doctor before starting. It sounds like you have a lot of past experience with exercise, that’s awesome.

Since you don’t have the guides, you may want to join Team BeachBody as a free member and then you can schedule your workouts. Here is the link to sign up – https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free?referringRepId=37971. Once you have signed up, I will help you with the routine.

  100. Hi, I am a college student about to start p90x. I realize how important sticking with the nutrition plan is to get the full effect of this program, but how can I make healthy choices in a college cafeteria?? There is no way for me to make my own, healthy meals. Any advice would be extremely welcome.

    1. Hi Nicole,

Glad to hear that you are starting P90X. Do you have the nutrition guide that came with the program? If so, it should be able to give you an idea of what to eat. For instance a salad with grilled chicken for lunch or dinner. Now if you don’t have the nutrition guide, you may have a bootleg copy. None of those come with it. But you can get a custom nutrition plan if you join Team BeachBody at https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971. Again you can use it as a guide to help you make some healthy choices. Plus you you get online coaching too.

BeachBody, the makers of P90x also make some great meal replacement options. They include shakes and protein bars. You can use them to replace breakfast, lunch or snacks, and if you need to, a quick dinner. One great option is Shakeology. It can be mixed in a shaker cup with milk, soy milk, juice or water. Its loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, and probiotics. You can view all of your options at http://beacbodycoach.com/fitwithjessica under the “shop” tab, in Nutrition & Supplements.

      Hope that helps!

      Jessica:)

    1. Beachbody does not sell the guides seperately. There are a lot of bootleg/pirated copies of the program sold online. The sellers are ripping off the customer and Beachbody. Unfortunately, the customer doesn’t realize until it is too late that they only got 1/2 the program, which is why they only paid 1/2 price.

Honestly, the program is well worth the full price. It has been a life changer for me, and will continue to be. Think of it as an investment in your life. YOU are worth it. As I told a family member who did the same thing, write off the previous purchase as lessons learned, and order the full program: http://budurl.com/nqh3. You also get a great coach who’s been there, and who will help you succeed with the program.

There are also options to save 10-25%. Email me if you need more info. Most important, Decide that you are worth it, and Commit to sticking with it!

      1. Bob, apologies, just realized I had replied to a more recent post of yours. I was just going through some of the older post. Keep pushing play!

  101. i have 1 more week of phase 1 but i havent loss hardly any weight is that normally or am i doing something wrong

    1. Jay,
The phase 1 Fat Shredder phase is for shedding fat, which may not equal shedding many pounds. Have you taken you bodyfat calculations before you started P90X? Or did you take measurements and record them? Also don’t forget that everybody is different. It may take some people longer or shorter to acheive their goals due to factors like metabolism, genetics, etc.

Keep up the good work. I’ll bet that you are getting in the best shape ever and if you keep it up you will be looking and feeling great.

Don’t pay too much attention to the number on the scale. Your weight can fluctuate as much as 2-5 lbs per day. And the best time to weigh is first thing in the morning.

If you don’t have one, you may want to invest in a body fat caliper. In addition you may also want to become a member of Team BeachBody. There you can get online coaching, track your progress and much more.

You can look into both the caliper and memership at http://beachbodycoach.com/fitwithjessica

  102. I am starting week ten of P90X. It is amazing. But I left my nutrition guide in a hotel (I travel a lot). Is there a place online I can get the Lean guide? I want to switch to that. Thanks.

  103. What if i dont follow the nutrition plan exactly but i do start eating healthy, will i still see good results ?

    1. Hi Navjot,

The nutrition plan was designed specifically for P90X for optimal results. That being said, if you decide not to do the plan exactly, you may not see results as quickly as if you did follow the plan. Is there a reason you don’t want to follow the plan? If you need help with meal planning you can become a member of Team Beachbody Club and get customized meal plans. The link is https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971.

  104. I really want to try P90X, but I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment, how much will I bother my neighbors below me? Is this a realistic place to do it?

    1. Hi Wade,

I thinky ou should be ok with it, because you are instructed to land softly on your feel. Not stomping. You may want to try some of the jumping jacks, etc. on thick padded carpet, or invest in a good thick mat. If you know the neighbors under you, you can just let them know what you will be doing and when.

If you need more help on ordering P90X or a good mat, you can go to my website at http://beachbodycoach.com/fitwithjessica

      Jessica

  105. Just want to clarify something. In the nutrition guide it says that 1/3 protein powder equals 1 serving of protein, but in the recipe section it indicates on the recipe for protein shake that 5 tbs of protein powder equals 2 servings of protein. When I measured it out 5 tbs equals approx 1/3 cup. Which is correct, 1 serving or 2?

    1. Hi Toni! I checked my guide. It looks like the 1/3 cup = 1 serving (which is 1 scoop) when made in the Phase 1 shake, in level 2, you add 1.5 scoops so it becomes 1.5 servings of protein. In level 3, you had 2 scoops of powder and it becomes 2 servings protein. This is from the Fat Shredder phase. The serving sizes change because the amount of protein increases for each level.

The levels correspond with your calculated caloric needs.

      Does that help?

      Jessica:)

  106. Hi, I am going to be doing the workout and have recruited my dad to do it with me. I am over weight and not very fit. I was a caregiver for my mom for three years until she passed away and kind of let myself go since I was focusing on her and taking care of my daughter, my sis, and my dad as well lol. I also have some back trouble and slightly high blood pressure. I really want to get in real good shape and get a good amount of muscle but my concern is, how fit do you need to be in the first place? Am I going to have trouble since I am out of shape?

    Thanks,
    Bri

    1. Hi Brianna! First I want to say I’m sorry to hear about your mom passing. The loss of a parent is something I can’t imagine. And being a caregiver can be such a hard job and can be physically and mentally draining at times. But you must be a strong person to handle all of this. Right now seems like a great time to focus on you and getting healthy.

I would love to see you do an exercise program that will be fun and just challenging enough right now. You mentioned that you were a little out of shape and I don’t want you to do P90X and get discouraged. P90X is a serious workout. There is a fit test that is recommended that you take before starting the program.

      So here are some suggestions:

      1) You can try P90X, and work with a coach (which you get for free), and modify the exercises. Here is link to P90X to check it out http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/P90X?referringRepId=37971

      2) You can complete another program first to get you in better shape for P90X. A few good ones are
      a)10-Minute Trainer http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/10MinTrainer?referringRepId=37971,
      b) Power 90 http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/Power90?referringRepId=37971, or
      c) Slim in 6 http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/Slimin6?referringRepId=37971.

Each of these DVD workout systems comes with a nutrition guide which will help you get on the right track for eating as well.

Think about it. If you have more questions, you can send me an email at wattersjes@msn.com and you can visit my profile page at http://teambeachbody.com/fitwithjessica to learn more about me:)

      Jessica:)

    2. It’s good that you are now taking the time to think about YOU. We have to take care of ourselves if we want to be there to help others. And recruiting your dad is great, for both of you! Having an accountability partner increases your likelihood of success. And who better, than someone you love.

How bad do you want success? How about your dad? You have to do it for YOU. He has to do it for HIM. You both CAN do it, if you really want it. The Beachbody motto is “Decide. Commit. Succeed.”. You’ve Decided. Now, if you Commit, Success is guaranteed!

You have to believe. Whichever program you choose, commit to giving 100%, and sticking to the exercise and nutrition plan. Like any habit, it takes around 21 days change. If you stick to it for those first 30 days, the results will blow you away, and give you the motivation to stick with your new life style.

For your dad, realize he has to commit for himself. Like I said, it is GREAT that you have the opportunity to do the program with him, and you can motivate each other. But remember, you are first accountable to YOU. I pray that you both succeed. If one slips, the other can pull them back in. But if one quits, the other has to go on and finish the journey.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or either of you needs any motivation.

  107. I am in the process of training for long distance running. Can I do P90x and continue my running program or will I have to give up the running?

I’m also just coming off of atkins. Anyone know if it’s safe to switch to the P90x nutrition plan without gaining all the weight back that I worked to lose? Thanks.

    1. Running will be your cardio workout and you can incorporate P90X on your days off from running, on the same day as an easy run or depending on your fitness level, do doubles (although that would be more for an elite athlete).

You will eat substantially more healthy on the P90X plan and I can’t imagine that there would be any risk whatsoever of gaining the weight back from eating. You will reduce your percentage of body fat and that should balance out the minimal weight gain from putting on muscle.

    2. As Rich said, you will eat a lot more on P90X, but with the workouts, you shouldn’t gain any of the weight back, unless it is from muscle. I ate a LOT, and the weight melted off…it was amazing!

With atkins, were/are you still on a low-carb diet? I don’t know much about it, just know that it used to be a low-carb diet. The first month of P90X is the Fat Shredder phase, which is a low-carb plan. They recommend against staying on this more than 2 weeks longer than the first phase, bad for your liver I believe. If you are now, or just finished doing another low-carb plan, you may want to give your body a 2 week “break” from the low-carb before starting P90X phase 1.

Rich is the running expert, trust his advice. If you have questions on P90X, feel free to email me: spydorbyte@gmail.com, or reply here.

  108. Hello everyone, i have bought the p90x pack and i have lost my nutrition sheet or my kids took it…. does anybody know how i can get a new copy??

  109. Hey,

No, this is NOT a “I left my nutrition guide at a hotel” or “Those idiots at Beachbody didn’t include my workout guide” post. I do, in fact, have every piece that came with the product. That’s not my problem. Just thought I’d open that way …

    My confession:
I’ve had P90X for over a year now – maybe 2 years. However long it’s been, it has sat there, collecting dust, while I sat there (in front of my PS3), collecting fat.

    My epiphany:
It’s Spring Break right now – I teach – so I had some appointments scheduled this week. One was with my doctor to renew meds. It was absolutely disgusting and even moreso embarrassing. I teach Health (!!!) and Physical Education. I teach this stuff!

    My blood pressure is up.
    My weight is up.

    I’m 47.

It’s time to turn my life around.

    P90X starts tomorrow.

    My new life starts tomorrow.

    Thanks for listening,
    Scott

    1. Hi Scott! Sounds like now is a great time for you to start. Investing time into your health is the best investment around.

    2. Hello Scott,

The good news, what you’ve done in the past doesn’t matter. What you choose to do now does. I’ve been down that road, and, over the past 15 months, completely turned my life around. For years I was a gaming junkie, computer geek, tv watcher, doing little physical activity. Fitness was of NO interest to me. I’m still a computer geek, as it pays the bills, but have changed most other aspects.

I started P90X December 31, 2008. I never considered failure, it wasn’t an option. To me, it was just a show I was watching everyday, a game I was playing. I followed along, and I’m now a new, healthy, happy person.

I’m on my last week of ChaLEAN Extreme now, then going back to P90X next week. Wish I was a week sooner so I could join you, but I’ll be right behind you. Commit to completing it, and enjoy the workout everyday. Plan, plan, plan.

As Jessica said, there are a few of us coaches on here, always willing to help support you on your journey. We’ve been through the programs, and continue to do them. I love the feeling I get each day, and love it just as much when I see someone new getting that feeling.

    3. Hey Scott, I’ve watched the p90x infomercials since it came out. I thought it was time to turn my life around too. I purchased p90x last year and continued watching the infomercials, when one was over I’d surf the chanels for another. I did this every night laying in bed eating cheetos. I finally started, I am on my second mo. and I am addicted, If I don’t have time in the A.M. when I am working the time goes too slow. I am 51 and I can’t wait til the next work out, I can’t seem to get enough. I lost almost 2 inches off my waist and 10 lbs. It does take a little getting used to but stick with it, push play and do your best and forget the rest. Good luck

      1. Bob, I was hooked on the infomercials too. The first time I saw it, I only caught the last half of it. I was mesmerized, amnd believed. I looked to see when it was on again, and scheduled to record it. I watched it 2-3 time in a row, the pulled the trigger and ordered.

Isn’t the addiction great! I know exactly what you mean, with slow work days if you don’t work out. It makes it tough on the rest days, but I do usually take them. And 51!!! I’m only 42, and feel great to have this energy at “this age”. I look forward to being your age, and older, and having just as much energy. Bring It every day!!!

Feel free to drop me an email anytime or sign up with me as your coach, my contact info is in the other post. I love sharing this passion for life.

Or, if you’re ready to share the passion with others, consider signing up as a coach: http://budurl.com/ae2l . The next best thing to accomplishing your goals, is helping others to do it.

Good luck to you too on your fitness journey. Do it for YOU, but with all of us.

    4. To Scott and everyone else out there This is one of my favorite qoutes…” Success comes in cans, Failure comes in can’ts”

      1. May 31, 2010

I never had self confidence growing up. I had weights, treadmills, cable machines and even those grip strengtheners, I always started and quit, thinking this is going to take too long. As the years ( and years ) went by I then thought, if I only stuck with it. The only thing I came close to sticking with was boxing but I was young and married with a family and it just didn’t fit in too well. I had P90X since the end of November 2009, and actually almost sold it a few times. I would lay on the couch or bed eating Cheetos or chips and watch the P90X commercials, when one was over I would surf the channels to another P90X commercial. Finally in March 2010, I pushed play and haven’t hit pause yet.

I never mentioned this for fear that someone would talk me out of the workout. In the past ten years I have had a few surgeries, three due to an auto accident, four just plain old wear & tear and one serious infection. I also have a bulged disc in my neck that I refused surgery.

Auto accident; Two lower back and right hand surgeries.

Wear & tear; Left rotator cuff, a torn right bicep, right labrum tendon and right rotator cuff surgeries.

        Infection; Lung surgery.

I do have a bit of problem with some of the Plyo and Yoga excercises due to flexibility but I do all of them the best I can. I am down to 180lbs. from 200+ and feel a whole lot better about myself since I started the program. I even climbed twenty feet up a tree to get a cat down. Did I mention I am 51 years old. Push play, do your best and forget the rest. I just wanted to add that I started this program to get healthy and to feel better about myself I am not looking to be a He-Man or Mr. America just Mr. Bob, so far it does work and I do have the self confidence that I did not have all those years ago.

If I can decide to make the commitment to better health, then so could you. I had a lot of things going against me, but I still didn’t let it stop me. I could have stayed on the couch, eating Cheetos. That would have been the easiest thing for me to do. But look at me now! I am feeling great. The choice is yours. You can go on sitting on the couch with the bag of chips, or you can decide to get on your feet and get your life back. Its not going to be easy, but I guarantee you will not want to go back to your old life.

        Thanks,
        Bob

  110. how do i buy just the nutrition plan, we have everything else but that got left in our storage and we need it but i dont want to have to buy everything again, and i can not seem to find just the book on sale anywhere! Please help

    1. Steph, if you purchased the program directly from Beachbody, you can call customer support and have them look up your purchase info. They may either sell, or send you for free, a replacement book.

If you purchased somewhere else, you can’t get the nutrition plan, it’s only availble as part of the set.

It doesn’t replace the fitness and nutrition manuals, but an alternative is to sign up for a Beachbody club membership at http://budurl.com/bhby. For less than 50 cents a day, you get the ability to schedule your full 90-day workout routine, access to nutrition tools, including menus, calorie calculators, and a host of other tools. You’ll also have access to chats with the fitness trainers like Tony Horton. And, you get a free coach assigned to you, to answer any questions, and help get you to your fitness goals.

  111. Hi, I just got P90X in the mail (so excited). I’m a flight attendant and I am usually gone for 4 day in a row. I’m a little concerned with packing food. By day 4 I’m out of fruits and veggies. The soups and salads in the nutrition guide look like they’ll travel but I was wondering if I can freeze the soups or if they’re best consumed the day they’re made.

    1. Hi Natalie! The soups should freeze well and taste fine. If you need more meal ideas that can travel well, you can join the Team Beachbody Club. Here is the link Club Signup Form: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971

It costs $2.99 per week and you get customized meal plans and can swap out meals you don’t like. Especially ones that aren’t good for freezing.

Another option is trying a meal repalcement shake such as Shakeology. Its packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidents and probiotics. It mixes easily in a shaker cup with water, milk or juice and comes in a 30 serving pouch or 24 individual packets for travel. Here is a link wiht more info http://shakeology.com/fitwithjessica

  112. Hi,

I just started p90x and I’m using an app on y iphone to track my nutrition. One problem though is that the nutrition plan breaks down each category (fat, carbs, protien) into allotted calories. My app breaks it down into grams. If I’m in the middle group (2400 calories) what should the breakdown be in grams? Can you send it to me for each of the 3 phases?

    Would really help out TONS!!

  113. I just bought the p90x and the meal plan in the book only has one week of meals. Am I suppose to repeat the meals?

    1. Hi Afara! Scott is right, the menus in the P90X Nutrition Guide should be used to give you a good idea on what you should/could eat. I mix it up myself, and have found the “club” membership helps too. And there are some people out there who do like to keep it simple and eat similar meals everyday.

I wind up having a breakfast smoothie (from the guide) almost everyday because its quick and easy for me to have while getting 4 children ready.

  114. The meal plan in the nutrition guide is meant to start you off, give you an option for a structured plan to follow. You don’t have to follow it day 1 to 7 and repeat. You can mix it up. You can also combine the meal plan with the portion plan to give you more variety, which is what I do.

For other meal options, use the meal plans from the Team Beachbody website. Club members get customized plans based on your weight, height, and fitness program. There’s also a low-carb option.

If you aren’t a member, join here: http://budurl.com/bhby. You can sign up as a free member with limited access, or for less than 50 cents a day, get full access.

Which ever option you choose, follow the levels recommended for P90X. The first month is low-carb, to speed up the fat burn.

  115. Hello everybody:

Was just given P90X by a friend who no longer needs it, aand I’m looking forward to starting it.

    I do have two questions:

I am in the worst shape of my life, due to three years of forced inactivity as a result of a severe back injury. While physio and focused back exercise has strengthened the muscles in my back to the point where normal movements are not painful, I am wondering if this program would be too intensive (lots of core twisting/bending etc) as my first exercise program.

The second question is related, the same car accident that nearly paralysed me left me with chronic pain in my left knee due to minor damage to my ACL and MCL. will the extensive use of plyometrics in this program make it a poor choice for me over traditional weight training programs?

    sorry for the long post.

    Chris

    1. I am mid way thru the 9th week of p90x. I never mentioned this for fear that someone would talk me out of the workout. In the past ten years I have had a few surgeries, three due to an auto accident, four just plain old wear & tear and one serious infection. I also have a bulged disc in my neck that I refused surgery.
Auto; Two lower back and right hand surgeries.
Wear & tear; Left rotator cuff, a torn right bicep, right labrum tendon and right rotator cuff surgeries.
      Infection; Lung surgery.
I do have a bit of problem with some of the Plyo and and Yoga excercises due to flexability but I do most of them the best I can. I am down to 180lbs. from 200+ and feel a whole lot better about myself since I started the program. I even climbed thirty feet up a tree yesterday to get a cat down. Did I mention I am 51 years old. Good luck to you Chris, push play, do your best and forget the rest.

      1. Hi Bob! You’re always amazing me:) And you surprised me with this info, because like you said you never mentioned it to anyone including me before.

Chris, as you can see that Bob is working with some issues and has made it to week 9 (almost 10) and has had some awesome results. He does what he can and he knows his limitations too. He doesn’t let his ego get the beter of him. And he doesn’t get discouraged if he can’t something.

I would still recommend that you check with your physician and get the okay before starting, like Scott said.

  116. Hi Chris,

Sorry about your accident and glad you are doing better.

The program is intense (though you can certainly modify moves). I think maybe you should work up to it (and skip the plyo video – do that cardio replacement video instead). How do you feel (after warming up and stretching) when you do push-ups, pull-ups, lunges, and squats? If you can do these type of exercises or get yourself to the point where you can without a problem, then you are probably ready. Oh and in the black book, there is a fitness test. Take it and see if you pass. If you don’t pass, hold off and try to get in shape for it.

  117. Chris, P90X is an intense program. Not as intense as Insanity or the upcoming Turbo Fire, but it’s no walk in the park either.

My recommendations, check with the doctor. If you push yourself and make you injuries worse, you may not even be able to do lite workout.

Choose a lighter program to start with like Power90 (http://budurl.com/pgsx) or Turbo Jam (http://budurl.com/4adq). Neither of these are as extreme, but you can still get great results with them. After completing one of these, you should feel stronger, and possibly ready to take on X.

Just remember deciding to do anything is better than doing nothing. It’s not a race, we have the rest of our lives to work on our health and fitness. Enjoy the ride.

  118. Mac and Scott:

Thank you for the feedback. I will be going to see my doctor next week, and with her approval I will begin a light course of the exercises in the DVDs, to try them on if you will, to see how the back holds up.

I appreciate the feedback, it is always reassuring to get second opinions from people who are familiar with the exercise routine before starting it. Ill let you know how it works out in a couple weeks.

    1. Stay committed to improving your health and you’ll do fine. Whatever you do, remember, discomfort=good, pain=bad. In order to grow, we have to get outside outside our comfort zone. Let us know how it works out, and if you need any assistance.

    1. If anyone would like to view Bob’s P90X story (he’s in week 10), he was kind enough to write it up for me. You can view it at http://fitnesswithjessica.blogspot.com

As he says, its not about him wanting to be a “he-man” just to get in better shape. Bob has given me the pivleage to be his coach and I am so glad that I have gotten to know him.

  119. fitwithjessica :

Scott, I had someone send me a page from a PDF that had totally wrong info on it. It wasn’t anything from the P90X Nutrition Guide at all.

I’ve seen some of them too. Some were legit, but from older books, and Beachbody had corrected info since.

A friend ordered ChaLEAN Extreme from eBay, and it looked completely legit…until they compared their guide to mine. It was missing all the recipes, how to do the fit test, a few other things, basically half the book. Why whoever made the book only made half I don’t know.

At least they had the disc though… A month into the program, two of the disc started getting read errors, and wouldn’t play. I told them, write it off as lessons learned and order the whole program. It threw their schedule off a week while they waited for the new program to arrive.

The hassle isn’t worth it. Our health is worth it the cost of the program, and more.

  120. I want to start the P90x Program, but I suffer from malnutrition (I’m super-thin). I have very little body fat to burn – rather I want to gain muscle mass, and maintain a healthy amount of body fat. Is there a way I can modify the nutrition plan to my needs, or should I just do away with it?

    1. Hi Lexi! Being super-thin can sometimes be as worrisome as being overweight. I used to be super-thin while in high school and in my early 20s. So I can understand.

I would follow Phase 2 of the Nutrition Guide. Start with that and try adding an addtional 300 calories daily to what it says you should be taking in for your caloric needs.

The P90X Nutrition Guide is filled with healthy food choices and recipes. It will help you put weight on in a healthy way, not a junk food way. If oyu have more questions, you can email me at wattersjes@msn.com.

  121. Saw this program last night and have really been looking into it. Just havent found the anwsers I have been looking for. Hopeing to find them here. I’m 35yr old 6’1 male who has weighed 135lbs his whole life, due to high motabolisum and alot of lifting boxes at work. Due to the economy I have found myself at a desk job and I now weigh 155lbs. I want to start getting in shape before it becomes an issue.
Noticed that everyone mentions the nutrition plan is good for losing weight. Wondering if this program has something for me. Not really needing to lose weight, looking for something that will help me gain weight along with gaining muscle tone and build, yet lose that fat around my belly that I’m starting to get.
Any info about this would be great, thanks.
    Allan

    1. Allan, yes this program has something for you too. You can lose, gain, or maintain weight, just by adjusting the calories. It is truly a program for every body type, and every fitness goal.

You’ll need to eat well to push it during the workouts. The nutrition guide will break everything down, and help you figure out what and how much you should be eating.

Order the program through a coach (http://budurl.com/nqh3). You save on shipping, and the coach is then assigned to you (for free) to help you with the program. We can help you figure out exactly how much you need to eat, and help with meal planning. We’ll also be there to motivate and support you through the program.

When you order, look over the options for the club membership vs the free membership. Club is less than 50 cents a day, and gives you access to additional tools for meal planning, fitness/nutrition tools, chats with the trainers (Tony Horton). It’s not required, but an option.

    2. Allan, I agree with Scott that this program has something for everyone. And I also agree that you will see the best success when you work with a Team Beachbody Coach. A Team Beachbody Coach and the rest of the Team Beachbody community can provide you with the support you need to keep pushing play. And if you have questions, you can always find answers with your Coach or the Team Beachbody Message Boards.

      Hope that helps:)

  122. Also noticed that P90X mentioned a 5 phase course but only have seen mentioned 3 phase course. Is the 3 phase course just that of the 90 day challenge. So phase 4 and 5 would be the next 30 and 60 days?

    1. Not sure where you saw the thing on 5 phase course. P90X is 3 phases, 1 month each phase. You can repeat the program over and over, but it would still be the same 3 phases.

  123. Hi, I was wondering…I’m doing the Lean Routine. I understand it has more cardio, but was wondering what the difference is between the others compared with the lean. For example, I am 5’2″, 117lbs. and really want to firm my abs…get rid of the extra stuff. So does it matter if I do the Lean over the others? I’m pretty fit, just want to tone and define my body. Should I stick with the Lean routine or what? I’m on day 15!

    1. Hi Ashley! The Lean Routine does offer more cardio and is for those not looking to build a lot of muscle. That being said, I do enjoy doing Classic over Lean. I wanted to build up my upper body strength and decided Classic was for me after trying both the first two weeks.

Doubles is doing the Classic Routine, but adding extra cardio on the strength days. This is good for people who need to lose quickly or are training for an athletic event.

So depending on what your goals are will determine which program is best for you.

Hope that helps and if you have more questions, you can email me at wattersjes@msn.com.

      Jessica
      http://teambeachbody.com/fitwithjessica

  124. OOPS! I meant I’m 5’1″…I don’t even know if that matters 🙂 And my weight fluctuates between 116 to 120…and I know weight doesn’t matter all the time, as long as your BMI is proportionate. Thanks!

    1. Hi again Ashley. Right now the inch won’t make a difference in what routine you choose to do:)

Again, go for Lean if you want to do more cardio and build less muscle. Classic combines alternating days of strength and cardio with the emphasis on building muscle. And Doubles combines Classic with extra cardio, either in the form of the Cardio X dvd or withyour own program such as running, etc. Good for losing weight fast or training for a big event.

  125. HEY!!! u guys im going to the navy in 4 months n im tryna find a way to get in shape before i go…. Someone told me that p90x is the best way to go… the problem is i have no money to buy it.. is there any way i can find it on the internet or can anyone send the dvds to me… i really need it im 200 pounds n only 5’9 thats very out of shape…. thanks in advance!!!

    1. Jermaine, if you need to get in shape, P90X can do it for you! My suggestion, borrow the money from family or a friend. You can repay them once you join. Do you already have a ship date? Talk to your recruiter, tell them your situation, maybe they can help. Bottom line, make it happen, for you and your future.

Thanks for choosing to serve. Make the most of it, and enjoy your time!

  126. hey u guys!!!!!!!!!!! im joining the NAVY in four months and im in the worst shape ever….. someone referred me to p90x….. but the thing is i dont have the money to buy it…. i was wondering is there a website that i can find it on… or can someone send me the workout plan and the nutruients plan… or can someone send me the dvds.. i really need it because i wanna be fit before i ship off so wen they make me do all these exercises ill do them with no problem… thanks in advance

    1. Hi Jermaine. The only way you can get P90X legally is buy buying it from Beachbody or a Team Beachbody Coach, or borrowing it from a friend. Sometimes you can find used copies, but often they are all scratched and don’t come with the nutrition and exercise guides.

While I can sympathize on money being an issue, you can do a lot of things now to get in shape for free. You can start walking, jogging or running. You can start doing push ups, jumping jacks, crunches and you can even try to do pull ups at home if you have a chin up bar. If not, you can even go to the local park and see if they have a fitness course and try that several times per week.

Also cutting out the purchase of junk foods, like soda, fast food, etc., can help you save money and lose weight.

You can sign up for free online coaching with Team Beachbody whether or not you purchase P90X. You can also sign up for custom meal plans which includes the P90X Nutrition guide. That option costs $2.99 per week. That’s less than a Starbucks coffee. Plus you still get he free coaching and 10% off products.

Here are links to both options. You can choose me or one of the other coaches on this site.

$2.99 per week Club Signup Form: https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971

Again, there are a lot of free things or low cost ways to get in shape. I honestly feel that even though P90X is $119, its totally worth every penney.

      Jessica

  127. Hi,
I have been on the P90X program for 10 days and I really like it!! My question is about the recovery drink. I bought a protein mix that says it is also good for recovery of muscles after workouts. I usually mix 1 cup of skim milk and 1 scoop of the mix together with ice in the blender after my workout. Is it okay for me to use it as the recovery drink after my workout or d I need to buy something else?

    1. Amber, welcome to P90X, glad you’re enjoying the program.

Whey protein with water or milk, it is not the best recovery drink. You can mix with juice (apple, orange, etc) for a good recovery drink. 1 TBS whey to 8 oz juice

A better option, the P90X Results and Recovery formula (http://budurl.com/9yjy). It’s designed specificly as a recovery forumla, and is easy to mix…add two scoops to water.

Enjoy the program, and let me know if you have any questions.

    2. Hi Amber,
Scott is right, a protein drink by itself is not a good recovery drink. Most recovery drinks out there have protein mixed with a bit of creatine. Even the beachbody recovery drink Scott mentioned above has creatine if you read the fine print.
That’s because after you workout, creatine helps supply energy back into your muscles. I am not as sore when I use a recovery drink with creatine. The beachbody website has an orange-flavored one for abt $32, other body building websites are about $45, if you go to GNC you will pay $65. Buy online!
      Hope this helps!

      1. Hi you said the recovery drink is about 32.00, but when I went to order it it was 43.00. Am I looking at the wrong one?

  128. Hi,

I started p90x at 200 pounds and qualified as nutrition level 3. After Phase 1, I am 190; technically, I’m level 2 after the first phase so should I adjust my diet accordingly to level 2 or stay with the diet level I started on?

My goal is to gain muscle and lose fat.

    Sincerely,
    Victor Von Frankenstein

    1. Victor, adjust to level 2. I started at 210 lbs, dropped to level 2 as soon as I got below 200.

If you’re a Team Beachbody club member (http://budurl.com/bhby), you can also use the caloric needs calculator on their site to get your exact calorie needs as you progress. Membership also includes a lot of other benefits.

      1. I agree with you Scott in reply to Victor. I know there are some people out there who have a differing opinion on this. I saw a similar question on the Beachbody Message Boards and some people said to stay on the origianl level and others said to drop the level. But I think if you are looking to lose weight, then dropping to level 2 is a wise choice.

        Jessica
        http://teambeachbody.com/fitwithjessica

      2. I was once told that too, that the calories should stay the same. Their reasoning was that P90X is not a weightloss program, so your weight shouldn’t be dropping. But the reality is, people do lose weight on it, often moving from one level to another. It makes since to adjust calories accordingly.

  129. I am 6’3 and weight 226lbs, I will be getting my complete package within the next day or so. because of my height I want to lose my happy weight and still be around 210 or 205 and get lean muscle. What is the best way to acheive these results?

    1. P90X comes with 3 schedules: Lean, Classic, & Doubles. Follow the classic schedule. The program also comes with a nutrition guide. Read through it before you start the program. Figure out your calorie needs (you’ll be level 3), get the foods you need on hand.

Sign up for a free or club membership here: http://budurl.com/bhby. You can auto-schedule your full 90 days, and access other tools to help with the program. You get a free coach assigned, and I’ll help you through the entire program. My goal, make sure you succeed with the program and reach your goals.

It is not too difficult, you just follow along, do your best, and you will get results.

    2. Hi Thomas! I remember when my P90X first arrived, it was so exciting. You’re really going to love P90X and trust me it will be challenging and fun. As Scott mentions there are 3 routines you can follow. Most of the guys I coach (and a lot of the women too, including myself) love the Classic Routine. It has a lot more exercises to work your upper body and gain strength and lean muscle. Remember the more muscle you build the faster you burn fat, as long as you’re eating right.

And again as Scott suggests, look over the nutrition guide and stock up on the foods you need. I would highly suggest also looking into the P90X Results & Recovery Formula, and the Beachbody Whey Protein. These are some of the best out on the market, but only available online. You can order through one of the coaches on this website.

Again, like Scott suggested, you should also sign up for free coaching if you already don’t have a coach. A good coach will help you reach your goals.

      Good luck!

      Jessica
      http://teambeachbody.com/fitwithjessica

  130. HI,
Is it better to dot the classic? Does it give faster results? I started with the Lean program and am in week 3. Should I switch?
    Thanks:)

  131. So you are saying that the upper body workouts are the only difference. I am seeing results and I want to lose/tone more on my lower half so I am okay with the Lean.
Thanks for being so prompt with your responses!!!

    1. Actually, comparing the two schedules, lean cuts out some of the leg workouts too. It cuts plyo completely out, and cuts Legs & Back from the 3rd phase.

With all the cardio in lean, if you want to tone your lower half, and your already getting results, you can stick with lean.

If you need more help with specifics, you can email me at spydorbyte@gmail.com. You can also sign up for a free or club membership: http://budurl.com/bhby. This assigns me as your coach, and gives you access to a wealth of tools on the Team Beachbody site.

    2. Hi Amber! I agree with Scott that if you are seeing results, you should stick with it. I started my first week on Classic, went to Lean on my second week and then swtiched back to Classic in Week 3. My reason for doing this is I wanted ot develop more upper body strength and really reshape my arms and back. After completing 90 days, I am very satisfied with the way my upper and lower body look. I love my arms and love the fact that I have no more bra bulge:)

One thing I want to mention and I hope this doesn’t confuse you, but a lot of women tend to shy away from building muscle in their upper body wanting to focus only on legs and booty. But the best way to make your hips look smaller is to build a little more lean muscle in you upper back and shoulders. This will give you a more balanced look if you are a pear shape, and it will give you more of an hourglass look if you’re a very thin shape all over.

Again, there is no right or wrong way when choosing the routine. It really depends on what your goals are.

      Jessica
      http://teambeachbody.com/fitwithjessica
      wattersjes@msn.com

      1. Okay, should I finish week 3 and 4 of the lean and then switch to classic? I am a pear shape and think you are right about focusing too much on the lower half? Does this sound okay to do or will it mess up my routine?

        1. Hi Amber. If you are pear shaped, a lot of times what happens, is no matter how hard you work that lower half, you will always look pear shaped if you’re not working the upper half as well.

If you don’t mind, I would start at week 1 of Classic. This way you can get the most benefit.

Again, I love Classic. I think its a classic for a reason:) You will love the way your arms look and your legs and booty too:)

  132. Scott & Jessica~ thank you so much for the information, I work graveyard and read all your advice to the masses on here. Thanks for all the knowledge! I will definately be following the nutrition plan, and my wife will also be doing it with me. So our new grocery list will consist of food we dont have that is in the nutrition plan. Plus my son will be eating healthier as well, whoever thinks this wont work or is skeptical is insane. you can look at the outline of this program and just know that if you stick to it and follow the plan it will work. Im just jumpin out of my pants with excitement about this new journey my wife and I are on together. I got my complete package earlier today and cant wait to get started. Thank you again!!

    1. Hi Thomas, on behalf of Scott and myself, you’re welcome:) You’re right that it absolutely works if you stick to it and follow the plan.

That being said, if there is a food in the nutrition guide that you’re not crazy about, you can substitute it with another acceptable food from that group. So let’s say you don’t like cottage cheese, you can use low-fat, plain yogurt instead. The nutritin guide comes also has listed acceptable foods and what a portion consists of.

Good luck to you and your family, and please keep us posted on your progress:)

      Jessica
      http://teambeachbody.com/fitwithjessica

  133. Hi Jessica,
Do you mean I should start Classic 1 tomorrow or finish off this week of Lean which is week 3? ALso, you know how you need to relax your body on week 4, is it okay to skip that and go on to week 1 of the Classic?

    1. Hi Amber. I hope I didn’t mess you up:)

Actually, since you’re already in the middle of week 3 and going to start 4 next week, you can start week 5 as Classic. Unless you really don’t mind starting at week 1 after you complete week 4. I think that would really be the better way, but if you had some reason to be done by week 13 (for a vacation or starting a new job, etc.).

Again, I hope I didn’t throw a monkey wrench in your plans. Another option would be to finish up P90X Lean to week 13 and then to do antoher round after that with Classic.

It just depends on what your time looks like. Let us know what you decide:)

And if you have more questions you can email me at wattersjes@msn.com

      Jessica

    2. Amber, some would argue that week 4 is actually tougher, with the extra Yoga. It is taking a break from the strength workouts though. But, you do need the recovery week before starting over or continuing. While it may seem unnecessary, the recovery plays a big role in the progress.

  134. okay, so I should finish off weeks 3 and 4 of the Lean and start out the Classic from week 1. Right? Jessica, I am fine with whatever advice you give me because I have always been working out at the gym, but needed a new routine that was filled with muscle confusion and I took my brother’s advice and I am loving every minute of this program. Thanks Jessica and Scott, you guys are awesome!

    1. Hi Amber! Scott is right about taking doing that week 4. Important:)

I think you will see some nice changes if you do week 3 & 4 of Lean and then start week 1 of Classic. Again, unless you have some sort of deadline.

Scott, the other Coaches on this board and myself are more than happy to help:) Please keep us posted!

      Jessica

  135. Hello,

I’ve done 1 round of P90X (Classic) and knew what to eat in order to lose weight. now that I’m doing my second round of P90X (Doubles) I find myself battling on what to eat. I want to eat enough to have enough energy to get through the work out and replenish my muscles, but at the same time still lose weight. My weight loss has barely budged, but my body does seem a bit more tone. Please don’t tell me it’s because muscle weighs more than fat.

So my question is, what should I be doing differently in terms of my diet? What should I eat before/after? Should I up my caloric intake? I still want to lose weight.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Mary,
Great job on finishing your first round, and making progress towards your goals.

I would need to know more specific info to recommend calories/foods, but will give some basic info now. As you pointed out, you have to eat enough to have energy to do the workouts and make it through the day.

P90X isn’t a diet program. That doesn’t mean you can’t lose weight on it. It means you can’t cut calories too far, or weight loss will stop. Eating the right types and amounts is crucial to get results (losing weight, gaining muscle, etc.).

On your first round, did you follow the nutrition guide, or what foods/amounts were you eating? What was your goal, and how much progress did you make towards it. When people start off and have a lot of weight and/or fat to lose, it’s easier to make progress. As you move closer towards your goal, the small details matter more.

Sign up for a free or club membership here: http://budurl.com/bhby. This gives you access to a wealth of online tools to help in your progress. Either membership assigns you a free coach to work with you. With club membership, you get meal plans customized specifically for you and the P90X program, plus many other tools.

Feel free to contact me directly, info below. We can go over your specific details and goals, and figure out what your calories need to be, and make sure you’re doing what you need to get your progress moving again.

    2. Hi Mary! Great job on finishing Round 1. I completed Round 1 of P90X 3 weeks ago. Following the P90X Nutrtion Guide will provide you with the right foods to fuel your body and give you increased energy.

And if you did follow the nutrition guide but need more recipes/ideas, you can do like Scott said and sign up for “club” membership for custome meal plans and recipes. Plus you get 10% off products too.

Also, since you already completed Round 1, did you drop weight? If so and you want to lose more, your caloric intake needs may have changed. You may need to recalculate that with your new weight.

  136. I can’t seem to get rid of the so called love handles. Any suggestions??? I know P90X is not a weight loss program but I am down to 175 from 200+ since I started. I am in my second week of round two.

    1. Hi Bob. Getting rid of love handles gets a little harder as we age. But the size of them can be reduced. And depending on your age, may also determine how much they can be reduced. If the love handles ahve been around for a long time, it could also be a case of excess skin, which again as we age may or may not tighten up as much as we hope for.

But what you can do is make sure you’re doing Ab Ripper X on the days you’re supposed to. The oblique v-ups and the mason’s twist are good exercises to strengthen the muscles in the waist area. Also doing more Core Synergistics may help too. I would replace it for Plyo. There are a lot of good exercises that target the lower back area which contributes to love handles.

And you may want to look at your diet. I know you and I have spoken a lot about your nutrition. You may need to adjust your caloric intake needs now that you’ve dropped weight. Bob, you have my email, send me an email and we can work up the numbers, if you lost it, its wattersjes@msn.com.

Also, there are other Team Beachbody products that could incorporate into your P90X routine and do a hybrid workout. RevAbs is a great workout that strengthens the core and adds cardio to burn fat. http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/RevAbs?referringRepId=37971

And last, genetics play a big role on where we store our fat.

  137. Hey
I bought P90x and I dont understand which workouts are the best for losing fat and gaining more muscle

    1. Bikaramjit, do you mean which routine (lean, classic, doubles), or which exercises (Legs & Back, Plyometrics, Kenpo X, etc.)

To get results from P90X, do the full program, not just select exercises. If you want to burn fat and build muscle, I recommend choosing the classic routine. Follow the schedule from the fitness guide.

If you don’t have the guide, or want an easier way to schedule, sign up for a free or club membership here: http://budurl.com/bhby. You can auto-schedule your full 90 days, and access other tools to help with the program. You also get a free coach assigned to help you through the entire program.

    2. Hi Bikaramjit! Congrats on getting P90X! You will love it! For losign fat and gaining more muscle, I would suggest the Classic routine. I would also highly suggest that you follow the nutrition guide. Some people I know do the program without following the nutrition guide. This leads to mediocore results. If you follow the Classic exercise routine, follow the nutrition as best as you can, and bring it everytime, you will see great results.

  138. hi,

i wanted to know what the difference is between the classic doubles and lean workout. i want to get more muscle mass…which program should i undergo? if someone can email me the answer that would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Go with classic to get more muscle, and follow the nutrition. Building muscle takes more than just lifting heavy weights, you have to tax your muscles every time. When you overlaod them, they breakdown, adapt and grow. You need energy to push yourself to these limits, you get that from fueling your body the right way.

Classic and doubles are the same the first phase. During the 2nd/3rd phase, doubles still matches classic, but adds in extra cardio 3-4 times a week. Lean replaces some of the strength workouts with cardio, hence the name lean. But even for those wanting to lean down, classic is a great option. As you build muscle, it burns fat, which gets you leaner.

  139. I am in Week 4 of the Lean track of P90X, but I have not been following the nutrition plan. If I want to start the nutrition plan now, should I start with Phase 1 – Fat Shredder and go back to Phase 1 of the workout (basically start over)? Any help would be appreciated!

    1. Hi Margaret, a woman that I am coaching did the same thing. She started P90X without following the nutrition guide, but in week 8 she decided to start following it in order to see maximum results. She started Fat Shredder/Phase1 and is already starting to see better results. She didn’t start P90X all over again. So you shouldn’t have to. When you finish your first 90 days, you may want ot do another round and really bring it with the nutrition:)

You can email me at wattersjes@msn.com if oyu have more questions.

  140. Margaret,
Hi! I totally agree with Jessica. Don’t start over. I did the same thing. You’ll be amazed at the difference in results when you’re following the nutrition plan. And when you’re done with your first 90 you’ll be addicted so you’ll be glad to do another 90 🙂

  141. I i just ordered the P90X. My partner and i are going to do it together, i cant wait! one thing…can you still drink alcohol? my partner likes to have a beer or two with dinner some nights of the week and i enjoy a glass of wine here and there. will this information be in the nutrition plan when i recieve it?

    1. Hi Christine! Yay! You’re going to do P90X! And with a partner is great!! Well here’s the good news and bad news about drinking alcohol while doing P90X.

Every calorie counts, and that goes for adult beverages. Most adult beverages have at least 150 calories or more. And in order to see the best results in 90 days, it is suggested that you don’t drink alcohol. But since we’re all human, there are going to be times that you may want to indulge a little.

There are some lighter options that may help. Here is a link to my recent blog post taking this on http://fitnesswithjessica.blogspot.com/2010/06/libations-and-exerciseeating-right.html

If you can follow the nutrition guide as closely as possible and really bring it with your workouts (not missing many), then it should okay to have one or two drinks on occasion without worry. But if you start slacking with the eating, missing workouts and then add on the drinks, it’s not gonna be pretty.

And in case you have a really bad night and indulge a little too much, did you know that P90X Results and Recovery Formula is great for hangovers? http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/P90XRRFTub?referringRepId=37971

It helps restore glycogen levels to your system. Its great for after your workouts and if you’ve had a little too much to drink.

If you have any other questions, you can email me at wattersjes@msn.com. If you;re not working with a coach, either myself or one of the other coaches on this board would love to help keep you motivated to meet your goals:)

  142. I’m on my 2nd week. I follow the nutrition plan when I can, but have trouble when I travel, which lately is lot. Is the meal replacement shake good for phase 1, and if so, how does it count. So far loving the workouts.

    1. Ron, congrats on starting P90X, it’s a great program. With either the Beachbody Meal Replacement Shake (http://budurl.com/hmrs) or Shakeology (http://budurl.com/shake), use 2/3 of a serving (100 calories), and count it as a snack portion. It’s too diverse to fit into any of the other categories.

Both shakes are fine for all the phases in P90X, and great for traveling. Be sure not to rely soley on shakes, take in solid foods too. I like to grill up 2-3 lbs of chicken breast, great for wraps, salads, sandwiches. The tuna packs are another option.

Let me know if you have any other questions, or need help planning your “travel food”.

  143. I was thinking of ordering the P90x set for my husband and I to lose weight and get back in shape. However, we are both smokers. Is this something that we will be able to do???

    1. Jennifer, P90X is a program you will both be able to do. There is some cardio, and I probably don’t have to tell you, but smoking will affect that.

As an ex-smoker, I know it’s not easy to quit. I had the habit for 22 years. But if you can quit, and tackle P90X, the results will blow your mind, and you’ll feel great. If you can’t quit now, hopefully when you start feeling great from P90X, it will give you the extra strength to quit.

If you haven’t already ordered the program, it’s less expensive shipping ordering through a coach (http://budurl.com/nqh3). You also get a free coach assigned to work with you, answer questions, help with the nutrition, etc.

If you already have the program, you can still get a free coach by signing up for a free or club membership (http://budurl.com/bhby).

This would be a great first step in improving your health. Let me know if you have any questions, I’d be glad to assist.

  144. I have the complete P90X program. However during our last move we misplaced our nutrition guide and would like to know how to order a new one.

  145. In the portions plan it says that 2 whole english muffins equal 1 carb. I wanted to make sure this was correct because I compared a whole english muffin to a slice of wheat bread and 1 slice of bread is just about half of everything of 1 whole english muffin – I don’t want to be eating 2 english muffins in a day and be getting twice as many carb portions as I should be???

    1. When using the portion plan, be sure to look at the calories too. You don’t have to “count calories”, but make sure whatever you’re eating to fill a portion matches the guide. For example, in this case, 1 carb = 200 calories. So it would depend on how many calories are in the english muffin your eating. I buy the mini-size ones. Also make sure they are whole wheat preferably, or whole grain if wheat isn’t available

  146. hi, i am a 15 yearold who just bought p90x. i am 165 lbs and i was wondering if i need to follow the nutrition guide to get great results. i was also wondering if it is bad to do an exercise more than 3 times a week. someone please reply back

    thanks!

    1. Hi Casey, exercising more than 3 times per week is fine as long as you take one day to rest. P90X will have you exercising 6 days per week with one day off. Following the nutrition guide is a great idea, but since you are still young, I’m going to suggest that you avoide Phase 1/Fat Shredder phase. You are still growing and need a good mix of carbs, protien, dairy, fruits and veggies. So you’d be better off following Phase 2 or Phase 3.

Make sure you also talk to your parents about all of this. This way they know what you;re doing and can help support your goals.

  147. Hi,

I’m a East Indian male (38 years old) weighing 155lbs. I’m a strict vegeterian by birth (not even eggs). I’m medium built and have a fairly large pot belly. I would like to get ripped (6 pack abs) and at the same time get muscle mass. I would like to know if P90X is worth for me and which one to choose (Classic, Lean or Doubles). On the diet side, I don’t know if P90X nutrition guide has anything for Asian Indian diet. I don’t like the Americanized vegeterian stuff as I’m so used to Indian vegeterian food. I take long grain brown rice during lunch and flat Indian breads with a side dish for dinner. I do Yoga too every morning and also do Pilates once a week. I’m fairly strong and I believe I can easily pass the P90X fitness test before venturing.

    Please reply.

    1. Hi AK, I have a suggestion. Team Beachbody offers “Club” Membership for $2.99 per week. You can get a customized vegetarian meal plan that will work with P90X. Plus you will get a 10% discount on products. So if you haven’t purchased P90X, you can do it after you sign up and get the 10% off of it.

If you decide to go with P90X, I would suggest doing the Classic Routine to build up your upper body as well as your lower body, and get you a flat belly.

You can sign up with any of the coaches on this site. All can help you reach your goals.

  148. I just wanted to know if anyone was starting the program anytime soon. My husband and I have set a start date of Wednesday, August 4th, so if anyone is starting on that day or will be close to it, let us know 🙂 I know we always can use the encouragement. We would start sooner, but we are currently in the process of moving and we ordered our pull-up bar and bands this week so we have to wait for their delivery! Thanks guys.

    1. Hi Brandy! Congrats on starting P90X soon with your husband! You know you can always find support online at Team Beachbody. You can find people who are starting P90X right at the same time you are:) The message boards are a great place to look and there are workout grousp that you can join with the specific start date of August 2010. If you are working with a coach already, you should talk to them about this:)

If you don’t have a coach, anyone of the coaches on this board, or myself, would be more than happy to coach you:)

  149. Hi Bill and Jessica,

Thanks for the info. I intend to start my P90X makeover from Aug 15th or so. I have couple of more questions:

    a. I don’t have a hard floor in my town house style apartment. The floor is all carpeted. Is it going to be fine to do the P90X training on a carpeted surface? I already have a Yoga Mat though.

    b. I’m not a vegan but a vegetarian. So dairy products are fine with me. It is just that I don’t like the western style vegetarian food. Can you suggest any website or any recipe books that I can refer that is inline with P90X food recommendations? This is alongside with the customized meal plan that you have suggested. Does the customized meal plan include meal plans that cater to the specific east indian masses like me?

    c. I work 8 hours a day in front of a PC and also tend to sit in front of the PC extended hours. What kind of a lifestyle change do I need to do before and after P90X?

I think I will come up with more questions later.

    Thanks.

    1. AK – so gladto hear you will be starting the program soon, it is really amazing!

      a) I too have carpeting in my house and completed the entire P90X program with no issues, it was perfect.

      b) I am not vegan either, however I too avoid meat products and am very very picky about what I eat. For the P90X nutrition plan I think you might find it easier to just go by the “blocks” rather than recipes, which is what I did, that way you can just mix and match the items that you do eat and perhaps make your own comibinations. I found this was much easier for me – maybe not as excited as alot of recipes but you will get more creative as the program moves on. Do you eat greek yogurt? It has a large amount of protein and since you eat dairy this is perfect to add to your diet!

c)I also work in front of a PC for 8 hours or more a day, I typically try and take a walk around lunch time, just 10 or 15 minutes and make sure you get up and move around about every hour and a half, just to stretch or take a short stroll through the office.

Good luck and please feel free to contact me – it sounds like we have alot in common!

  150. Hi AK,
    a) Yes, that should be fine. Carpeting is good for when you do more jumping like in the Plyometrics workout. You’ll make less noise. You have the mat, so your all set.

    b) Yeah, this makes it tricky. With P90X, comes a nutrition guide with a list of foods you can substitute. These meal plans look like they cater more toward the Western style. If you can have eggs and diary, there’s lots of protein sources there. Which western vegetarian foods don’t you like?

    c) You just need to make time to exercise most days and be consistent. In P90X, each week goes like this: you workout for 6 days and you have one day of rest. Set aside one to one and a half hours a day.

    All the best,
    Bill

    Hi,

    Thanks for your replies.
    Couple of more things:

    1. As I had mentioned earlier, I generally don’t like the western style veg. foods. Sanwiches are fine. I love it. Is organic brown rice pilaf (whole meal for lunch) good during all the phases of P90X workouts? I know I need to refer to the nutrition guide but as you had mentioned the focus for vegeterians is more on the western style. I regret that I’m brought up like that.

    2. Does any of the coaches available for P90X are knowledgeable on the east indian veg. cuisine? I would like to hear from them.

    3. I’m planning to get this recipe book (Lord Krishna’s Cuisine: The Art of Indian Vegetarian Cooking). This book is following a path where there is absolutely no usage of onion and garlic. The bad side of this book is it doesn’t list the nutritional information for each of the receipes. Can somebody, please review on my selection?

    4. For protein supplements, I’m reading excellent reviews on Optimum Nutrition products . All these are natural products and especially, Natural Oats & Whey (milk based) would fit my bill. Does anybody know if these are good and which ones you recommend? I also read people saying that the P90X Recovery drink is inferior to the Optimum Nutrition’s Oats & Whey protein powder.

    5. For the protein bars, I have bought Cliff Builder Bar (20g protein and 22g sugar) and Organic Food Bar (22g protein and 24g sugar, 80% RAW). Are these good?

    6. When is the best time to do P90X? AM or PM?

    7. After waking up early in the morning, is eating a handful of soaked garbanzo beans good? My friend suggested this to get a protein boost immediately after waking up. He is still doing Bullworker and he is looking terrific.

    8. Lastly, I have done Taebo (Billy Blanks) workout several years and it helped me develop muscles in a smaller way. I hope P90X would change myself completely.

  152. Hi

What is the best to drink as an after-workout drink if I’m not able to buy your shake? According to your website, “Due to legal restrictions, supplements are not eligible for international shipping…”
Can I drink fresh orange juice or milkshake?

    Thank you for your answer.

    All the best,
    Judit

    1. Hi Judit! If you live abroad and have a APO/AFO address, you can have Beachbody supplements shipped to you. But if you don’t live at an APO/FPO address, you can try making your own recovery drink. It won’t have everything that the P90X Reuslts & Recover Forumla has, but it will help.

You can use 1 TBS of whey protein powder and blend it with 8 oz of apple or orange juice. The sugars from the juice help replenish lost glycogen and the protein helps feed your muscles.

      Hope that helps!

    Hi Diandra,

It is nice to discover that we both have lot of things in common except for the fact that I tend to be more accustomed to east indian veg. food. 🙂
Would you be able to also comment on my questions that I posted last?

    Thanks and Keep in touch.

  154. Hi AK,
Some more answers below, hope this helps.

1&2) Visit our message boards: http://bit.ly/ckCZBy
Type “indian food” in the search field. There’s many threads on this subject. And you’ll find people in the same situation as you, there’s some chicken recipes, spices people use. The brown rice with beans would be a more complete protein source.

    4) Not too familiar with the Optimum products. I use the P90X recovery drink and have had no problems. As far as supplements, I’d recommend using whey protein, Beachbody has a whey protein powder that comes in vanilla & chocolate flavors. I would also use a multivitamin.

    5) I have tried the Clif Builders and they’re good. I also enjoy the P90X protein bars and they’re very tasty and chewier. They both have 20 g of protein.

    6) Whatever works for you and what your schedule allows, some people like working out as soon as they wake up, others in the afternoon, some at night. If you do it late at night, it might be hard to fall asleep.

    7) I like to have some protein for breakfast, like peanut butter, cottage cheese, eggs, veggie sausage patties. I’m not sure if the beans are enough, you may want to have something in addition, like a dairy product and fruit.

    8) With P90X, you can build more muscle by doing 8-10 reps of a heavier weight/resistance. This if when your do the upper body workouts with dumbbells or bands.

Let me know if you have any questions,

    Bill
    http://beachbodycoach.com/BestLife4U

  155. Thanks Bill and VitaminDee for your replies. I have couple of more questions:

    a. Can I take raw fruit salad during evenings on a daily basis? Is it good and does it increase my sugar intake on a daily basis?

    b. What about the garbanzo beans idea that my friend suggested? Does it help?

    c. I’m planning to do the workout in the AM (if time permits). The reason PM may not be good is because by the time I come back home from office, I feel tired and exhausted. At the same time, I was reading elsewhere that doing P90X in the evening will benefit from the body getting rest at night during sleep. Please let me know.

    d. Do I need both resistance bands and dumbells? I want to bulk up my muscles just to make it look more prominent :). So, is dumbells better than resistance bands? Does the videos show both ways of doing it and also allow me to do less reps with more dumbell weights just to bulk up?

    e. Is consuming brown rice a good idea on a daily basis? I thought rice generally has more carbs in it.

    f. The Optimum Nutrition’s Oats & Whey Protein has the best of both worlds. Can you check on them please?

    g. All the protein bars have significant sugar content (>22g). Is it good during all the Phases of P90X?

Thanks to Dee for suggesting the greek yogurt. Btw, does it have more fat and is it good?

Thanks to all of you for all the help.

    1. Hi AK! If you already haven’t signed up with a Team Beachbody Coach, you should look into signing up with either Bill, Vitamin Dee or any of the other coaches on this board you feel a connection with. When you have a Team Beachbody Coach, you can have someone in your corner cheering you on, answering all of your questions and helping you out. Plus you can have the privacy of just using email.

Also you can find other buddies on Team Beachbody, like other East Indian Vegetarians who are doing P90X:)

And the best part about it is its free:)

    2. Hi AK,
      a) I don’t think you can go wrong with whole foods like fruits and vegetables. I eat fruit everyday. Although the P90X nutrition plan doesn’t have any meals after dinner. Fruit is also good choice as part of your breakfast.
      b) They have protein, but you would need something else with them. They’re not a typical breakfast item. They would be better as part of lunch, dinner or snack.
      c) You don’t want to be tired you’re going to do P90X, you want to have your energy. If you feel better in the AM, go for it. Also, when you come home at night tired, you’re more likely to not be motivated to workout.
      d) You can use both for the exercises, but I feel the dumbbells are easier to use and work the muscles more. So you would need a set of dumbbells in 5 lb increments. Mine are from 10-30lbs right now. I do use bands for the pull-ups because I can’t fit the pull-up bar on my door.
      e) Rice has carbs, but in the nutrition plan, you can eat carbs, especially in the later stages.
      g) The P90X bars are part of the nutrition plan for P90X. After a workout they want you to have a recovery drink and protein bar. They are protein bars with less sugar, but they don’t taste as good.

  156. Bill :Hi AK,a) I don’t think you can go wrong with whole foods like fruits and vegetables. I eat fruit everyday. Although the P90X nutrition plan doesn’t have any meals after dinner. Fruit is also good choice as part of your breakfast.b) They have protein, but you would need something else with them. They’re not a typical breakfast item. They would be better as part of lunch, dinner or snack.c) You don’t want to be tired you’re going to do P90X, you want to have your energy. If you feel better in the AM, go for it. Also, when you come home at night tired, you’re more likely to not be motivated to workout.d) You can use both for the exercises, but I feel the dumbbells are easier to use and work the muscles more. So you would need a set of dumbbells in 5 lb increments. Mine are from 10-30lbs right now. I do use bands for the pull-ups because I can’t fit the pull-up bar on my door.e) Rice has carbs, but in the nutrition plan, you can eat carbs, especially in the later stages.g) The P90X bars are part of the nutrition plan for P90X. After a workout they want you to have a recovery drink and protein bar. They are protein bars with less sugar, but they don’t taste as good.
    Hope this helps,Bill

Thanks Bill, Jessica and Diandra for all your replies.

I’m really getting motivated by all of you guys!!!

As Bill mentioned, I searched for “indian food” and got lot of hits. Btw, I already have some indian veg. cookbooks that also lists protein, carbs etc per serving. I don’t know whether it will be ok for me to follow during all 3 phases of P90X workout.

Btw, do I need to a juicer to juice fruits or is it ok to take raw fruits?

The only thing I need to do is choose a coach to assist me thru the entire 90 days of workout. It is kind of difficult for me to choose one since I’m a strict east indian vegetarian. Also, I read elsewhere that I also need to take Creatine and Glutamine powders along with Before and after protein shakes. If this is correct, which brands do you recommend?

    Thanks.

    1. AK, I don’t recommend people taking large doses of creatine. In my experience, it can add an extra 10 lbs of weight. I like the fact that the P90X Results & Recovery formula has a very small dosage of creatine to ensure muscle repair but not add bulk. During P90X, this would be taken after your last workout.

As far as Glutamine is concerned, again, I wouldn’t take it in large doses. Many people successfully complete P90X without the use of Creatine and Glutamine. Its going to depend on what your overall goals are and what you can afford.

I would eat fruits raw in their whole form. That’s my opinion and how they’re eaten int he P90X Nutrition Guide.

Now as far as choosing a coach goes, you should choose someone who inspires you or you can connect with. It might be hard to find a coach on an east indian vegetarian diet. You can surely self-educate yourself on the diet part, but still have a TBB Coach there for you and the workouts:)

    2. AK – I have to agree with Jessica on her answer to your questions. I actually completed P90X without creatine or glutamine and had amazing results. I just made sure my protein intake was sufficient as well as my vitamins.

I agree whole fruit is probably best and more filling than juice as well.

You should definately look for a coach who inspires you and you think you can connect with – that is the most important!

Good luck with everything and we will all continue to answer your questions posted here!

AK – just another thought, while I was doing P90X, because I am very picky, I actually used the block plan in the nutrition guide rather than recipes this way I could eat the way that I wanted to. I went through the blocks and picked out all the foods for each and then developed my daily eating plan from what I liked to eat – you could probably come up with healthier versions of things you already eat based on foods allowed in the nutrition plan, this might make things a little easier and less complicated for you – I found it worked well for me. It might be difficult at first but once you get more comfortable you will come up with more ideas and it will be easier for you!

Again good luck and keep me posted!

  158. Hi VitaminDee, Bill, Jessica,

Thanks for all your replies. I have come up with a nutrition plan and schedule. I already posted this question on Beach body forum and was upset for not seeing positive suggestions. I hope you guys would correct and provide your comments. Since I’m a vegan/vegetarian I have come up with vegan based supplements as much as possible.

  159. AK – I am sorry to hear that you did not see positive suggestions/feedback in the message boards. I plan on looking at this a little more in depth, my question is did you want to follow the P90X set up in the nutrition guide? For example the 3 phases? like phase 1 fat shredder limits your carbohydrates? It looks like you have researched your supplements and I think that is fantastic – just let me know what you are going for? i.e. what are your goals with P90X? Do you want to lose weight or just tone up?

  160. Today is my first day of P90X…I’m stoked! I’ve been telling myself for months, even years now how embaressed I am of myself, a once super physical, healthy, top athlete who can barely finish running two miles! I hope this is good and powerful as everyone says it is. Wish me luck!

    Hi Diandra,

    Thanks for your reply.
Did you get a chance to check my diet plan and schedule?
Btw, I wanted to know if this is good for breakfast w/ skim milk after P90X workout:

    Pumpkin Flax Plus® Granola

Also, I’m for sure to start my P90X workout on Sep 04.

    Thanks again.

  162. i ordered p90x recently and am still waiting for it to arive but i have been wondering since im a type one diabetic is the p90x diet gonna work for me

    1. Congrats on ordering P90X, it’s a great program. The nutrition plan is fine with diabetes. There are plenty of food choices available to choose from. There’s also a menu plan with the program, but if it doesn’t suit your diet, there is a portion plan where you choose the items you want to eat. Personally I prefer the portion plan.

  165. I recently bought P90X and currently reading through the programs… I have a very busy schedule and was wondering how I can incorporate the nutrition plan with little time. sometimes it will be hard to follow through the plan with little time…

    1. Congrats on purchasing P90X, it’s a great program. Most people have a busy schedule, so you’re not alone. Busy or not, it takes planning to succeed with the nutrition.

I prepare 4-5 breakfast and 2-3 lunches on Sunday night. That makes the weekdays less stressful. Prepare in bulk whereever possible, and repeat the meal 1-2 time during the week. Example, when I make turkey burgers, I make 5-6 of them. I eat those over a two week period.

Use the portion plan to find quick foods you like, and use those as snacks, or piece together meals.

Shakeology is a great option to replace one meal a day (http://budurl.com/shake). It’s quick, portable and healthy, and cost less than a fast food “meal”. You can use it as a snack or meal (I use it as my dinner).

    Hi Dee,

I wanted to bulk up but at the same time, get the fat out of my body and be more muscular.

  167. I am looking for a list of food that can be taken to work for the p90x fat shredder stage 1. I have the general nutrition list from buying the program but I am looking for real examples and maybe even recipes to make it more tasty. It is hard to get the right stuff and neccesary caloric in a workday so looking for people’s experiences and suggestions that worked for them to take to work. I do have access to a refrigerator at work. Thanks 😉

    1. For breakfast, any of the omelets from the guide are great, as is the protein shake. For lunches, the salads listed offer a good variety of ingredients. I like their turkey burger too, and eat it regularly.

The recipes are all in the guide. I use a combination of the meal plan and the portion plan. You can add seasonings to your liking, but avoid the extra sodiums. The portions also offer great snack choices.

    2. Hi Topaz! If you have access to a fridge at work then that is great! It will make life easier when bringing food to work. Just make sure you label it so no one else takes it LOL! I agree with Scott, that most of the recipes in the P90X Nutrtion Guide are good. I also take the ideas and get a little creative with them. So if it says to have shrimp stir fry, I have chicken instead (since I rarely buy shrimp).

What helps me out a lot is to make a bunch of grilled chicken on a weekend and then use it for salads, wraps, stir-fry, etc. I’m pretty easy so I basically will eat chicken with brown rice w/ veggie & salad, or I’ll have chicken over a nice big healthy salad.

You can also try getting a 9×12 baking pan, spray it with Pam, and then pour in a triple or quadruple batch of one of the omelet recipes, then bake it at 400 for about 20 minutes or so (until firm). Then you can slice it into portions, refrigerate and pack with you in the morning to take to work. My husband and I do this for him.

And if you want a little more variety, you can join as Team Beachbody Club Member for $2.99 per week ($38.87 per quarter) and get more recipes there. Plus they send you a free cook book. Here’s the link to sign under me, but you can choose any coach on this board https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971.

  168. Hi I’ve recently purchased the p90x from my friend. He has lost his copy of the 3 step nutrition plan. Is there any other way for me to obtain a copy of this nutrition plan? I know that it is very crucial to follow the guide for a successful workout. I have the fitness guide and I have a question. I am 20yrs old, 210lbs 5″10 and I’m looking to drop at least 20 lbs of excess fat around the tummy area. Which workout should I do? Classic, lean, or doubles? They all sound very similar to me.

    1. Hi Erwin,

Well you’ve come to the right place for answers:) What you can try to do first, is have your friend call Beachbody Customer Service at 800-470-7870. If he ordered P90X from Beachbody or a Team Beachbody Coach, they might be able to send him a new one. If that doesn’t work, I suggest you join Team Beachbody as a Club member. You will get online access to a custom meal planner (which works great with P90X) as well as access to the P90X Nutrition Guide. Its a goodvalue at $2.99 per week, and you also get 10% off purchases. Comes in handy when you order P90X Results and Recovery Formula or your own P90X.

Here’s a link to sign up with me as your Coach, or you can sign up with one of the other Coaches on this blog. https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971

I suggest that you do the Classic Routine. You will build muscle and its a good routine to start off with. When you complete phase 1 and find you want to speed up fat loss, then you can do Doubles.

      Have a great day!
      Jessica

    2. hey erwin!! your body type sounds around the same as mine!!

  169. Hello out there… I bought the P90X program from a good friend that is in financial distress. I did it more for his situation than mine , but have now started the program and am on the 7th cd. I didn’t even know there was a diet program / book. When I asked my friend about it he said he had lost it. How can I get a hold of the diet book?
    James

    1. Hi James, when you say you’re on the 7th cd, I’m a little concerened that you also don’t have the exercise guide either. There is a specific order you’re supposed to do the dvds. Both the exercise guide and the nutrition guide are very important to have in order to get results.

You can ask your friend if they purchased P90X through Beachbody or Team Beachbody Coach. If so they may be able to get the guide books sent to them if he lost them. The number is 800-470-7870. If he bought P90X used or its a bootleg copy, then there is still hope.

By joining Team Beachbody as a Club member, you get access to the P90X Nutrition Plan as well as a custom meal plan wizard that gives you great plans for P90X and other exercise programs. You will also get a 10% discount that you can use for things like P90X Results & Recovery Formula and Shakeology. Plus you will get access to the P90X workout schedule for the Classic and Lean programs. This will cost you $38.87 per quarter. Here is a link to sign up and get coaching with me https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971

Your other option is to consider the purchase from your friend as you said to help himout financially, and purchase your own P90X http://teambeachbody.com/shop/-/shopping/P90X?referringRepId=37971.

  170. Hi, I’m midway through phase 3. All is going well, I’ve lost weight and improved strength. My question is regarding where I go from here in terms of nutrition. I’d like to redo the whole program as I’m really enjoying it, especially the better performance in sport. Do I stick with the phase 3 nutrition or do I go back to phase 1 when I restart? Or is there some kind of maintenance nutrition plan. I read the maintenance part of the guides but didn’t think it was very clear, or perhaps I misread it. I’d like to gain a bit of mass, so should I up the protein from here on?

Also, what would you recommend as the best carbs? I was mixing between oatmeal, wholegrain bread and a bran museli muffin, but now my local bakery has stopped selling these muffins and I need a replacement.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    1. In regards to the above, this question concerns AFTER I have completed round 1, not these next few weeks of phase 3.

    2. Do you still have weight/body fat that you want to lose before you gain mass? If so, start over at phase 1, and go through again. Stick with failing at the 12-15 reps range.

If you’re not looking to lose anymore weight/fat, start the program over, but start with phase 2 nutrition. Go heavier on weights, fail in the 6-8 rep range.

Either way, kick it up these next few weeks, go all in and get everything you can out of this round.

Best carbs? That’s tough. Whole wheat, whole grain. Oatmeal is a great choice, brown rice, whole wheat bread, pasta, tortillas. Here’s a list of good cereal choices: http://budurl.com/45h3

      1. Thanks a lot for the reply Scott! I shall do exactly this. I have a little bit more bodyweight to lose so I’ll follow your advice.

I’m level 1 so am I looking at 1800 for the foreseeable future now?

  171. Can anyone tell me how I can get a replacement nutrition guide book? My husband and I started the P90X system this past Monday and it really is a beast! We do not have the guide so we are guessing on what to eat. Thank you & God bless…

    1. Hi Tammy. If you ordered the program from Beachbody, call customer service. They can look up your order, and will send a replacement guide. Unless it was very recently ordered, there will probably be a fee, but I’m not sure what it runs.

If you purchased it elsewhere, I don’t believe they will sell you the guide. There are a lot of bootleg copies of the program being distributed, and they don’t provide guides for the ones buying/downloading them. eBay is a good example of that. Most the copies sold on there are not legal, and are missing most the guides, or only include partial guides.

If you didn’t purchase from Beachbody, the other option is to purchase the program from there now. You’ll not only get the nutrition and fitness guides, but also access to a host of tools on the Beachbody website. I honestly believe the nutrition guide alone is worth half the cost of the program.

When you purchase from Beachbody, you also get two additional workouts DVDs from the P90X One on One series. You can purchase the program here: http://budurl.com/nqh3

  172. Hi, um i am a vegetarian on p90x and i don’t know what types of food to eat also how many calories should i eat per day and how much protein should i get

    1. Hi Tank:) It is possible to be a vegetarian and do P90X. Tony Horton is one himself. The P90X Nutrition guide will tell you what calorie level you should be at and will tell you how many proteins you need. It will also give you acceptable protein choices, some of which are vegetarian. You should have that guide if you purchased P90X through Beachbody or a Beachbody Coach.

Another option, is signing up for Club Membership with Team Beachbody https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/club?referringRepId=37971 For $2.99 per week, you can design a custom vegetarian meal plan for yourself. Its awesome! I use my meal planner everyday. It helps me plan for the week, save time and save money. Plus you get a 10% discount on any products you purchase through your profile.

You may want to look into Shakeology, Beachbody Meal Replacement or Beachbody Whey Protein Powder as well. Shakeology is an awesome nutritional that will fill in the gaps and help you get the nutrients you need. There’s nothing like it http://shakeology.com/fitwithjessica. But any of the three I mentioned above will help fill in your protein needs.

you can email me at fitwithjessica@live.com if you need more help:)

  173. Question about joining Team Beachbody as a Club member, do you get recipes with the custom meal plan wizard or just a plan?

    1. Hi Mo! You get the meal plan and the recipes. You can even print out a nice list for the day/week which shows your meals, recipes and creates a shopping list. Once it creates your personalized list, you can modify it, swapping out foods/meals, and tell it certain foods to not include, or include your favorites.

For beginner and experienced cooks alike, it’s a great setup. You can sign up for a club membership here (http://budurl.com/wrhk). Try it out for a few weeks, and if you’re not satisfied cancel for a full refund. But after using the meal planner for one week, I’m sure you’ll find it well worth the less than 50 cents a day that it cost. Plus, the club membership also saves you 10% on all products.

    2. Hi Mo, I use the custom meal plan wizard and recipes all the time. The recipes are pretty easy and you can make a delicious meal fast. I love the snack recipes too. I find it saves me money having a meal plan and menu planned out. Plus there is less waste since I buy exactly what I need for the week. You can also upsize the meals to feed family and friends.

      http://teambeachbody.com/fitwithjessica

  174. Well, I joined as a club member. Not overly impressed with the quantity of recipes. I thought there would be more especially snacks and breakfast. There was one recipe on making Oatmeal. Okay.. And lot of recipes don’t have nutritional information. I will try it out for a few weeks to see if the site grows on me. Thank you for your help.

    1. Hi Mo! You know you can also change your meal plan as much as you like to get more meal options. For instance, you don’t want to stay in the low carb phase for more than 4-6 weeks.

For some people keeping it simple is best, but there are others who crave a lot of variety. I used to think I was the latter, but after much time, have found keeping it simple is better for me:)

      Good luck!

It costs $2.99 per week and you also get online coaching and tools, plus 10% off products. I love it because having a meal plan saves time and money.

  175. Hi. Ive read and heard different things when it comes to the nutrition plan and Levels I,II,and III. Ive been told that Phase 1 goes on for 4 weeks. The first week of phase I you do Level I, then week two you change to Level II and then week 3 and 4 you change to Level III… That really doesnt make sense to me.. After reading the book, it seems to me that I chose a level based on the formula given and then basically stick to it for the 30days while on Phase I.. am I right?? Please somebody help.

    1. Hi Charlie, your verfy close. You chose your based on the formula given, then you stick with that level throughout the program, unless you drop, or increase, to a different level.

The level is based on your weight.
      Level 1 = less than 150 lbs
      Level 2 150-200 lbs
Level 3 greater than 150 lbs

      If you start at 210 lbs, as I did, you’re a level 3. Once you get below 200, you’re a level 2.

Hope that helps clear it up.

  176. hi all, im into 2nd week of p90x and wanted to know if i can also lift weights after im done with the workout, to get a little bigger muscles.

    1. Dave, on your strength days, you can lift weights in addition to your P90X workout, but I would limit it to working the the same muscles as what you worked that day with P90X. You need to allow time for muscle recovery during the week.\

A better option would be to stick to the P90X workout, but increase the weight your using. Bump it up to where you’re struggling around the 6th rep. Even if you can only do 8 reps, that’s good. Go heavy!

  177. Hey just becoming a member, glad to be here! I’m glad to be right here finally, heading to submit seeing that I’ve been reading through a very long time.

Sooo anyways, sufficient info about me, see you all-around and hello once more haha.

BTW, what can I do to change the little picture thingy like some people have, I like it but can’t figure it out haha

  178. I started the P90X system a on January 3, 2011. I want to make sure I am doing this right.

Do I do each DVD day to day? and then after DVD 12, I start over?

    1. Hi Jeremy, Did you have the exercise guide that comes with P90X? In there you willfind three options for scheduling your workouts. 179. Hi there,
A friend of mine gave me the p90x dvds along with the workout guide. But I do not have the nutrition guide…where can I buy that separately (if I can buy it separately)? Thanks:)

    1. You can call customer support (800-470-7870) to ask about buying a guide. But without being able to look the original order, not sure if they will allow purchasing a replacement guide. If not, you could sign up for a club membership here: http://budurl.com/bhby. The free membership gives you access to online scheduling of workouts. Club membership adds the customized meal planner, 10% off all purchases, plus a few other benefits.
